Kind of a Mac newbie, though I was pretty experienced on PCs.

Anyway, one bit of software I really miss from Windows is this great piece of freeware called Irfanview. It was an image viewer that also could do basic things like resize, color adjust, crop, and save in multiple formats (actually it had a very easy to use batch mode for resizing and conversion and what not)

Also it was a great image viewer...I really liked how you could press enter to go into full screen mode (since so many photos are much bigger than the screen these days, and I'd like to see the whole thing as large as the screen can handle) and pressing space (or backspace for reverse) flipped you to the next photo, making it easy to zip through a whole directory of images)

Can anyone recommend a previewer with those properties?

Thanks!

Preview, the default application on Mac OS X for all image types, can open multiple images and do a slideshow mode that lets you move through the pictures one by one.

Better is the Finder. Select the pictures you want to look at, right click and choose Slideshow. You can show a proof sheet with thumnails, and flip between many of the images.

For simple image manipulation I've found that XnView (runs in X11), is extremely fast, powerful and free.

Do those work on 10.3.9? I didn't see a slideshow option on either...also the concept of "drawer" is a bit odd.

Oh, how I miss Irfanview! I switched to Mac about a year and a half ago, and I have no regrets at all whatsoever (of course!). However, there is not a single piece of software that I miss more than Irfanview. I do quite a lot of photography/graphic design/image manipulation/etc -- and so have been searching high and low for an equivelant to Irfanview ever since my switch... and I have come close, but each time I find something, it always has some sort of issue that drives me crazy. The closest thing I've found to date is the "slideshow" option in the finder, but two things that really bother me about it are 1) the little semi-transparent box at the bottom that appears whenever you move the mouse, and 2) it does not show PDFs (I have NO IDEA why)... I work with PDFs all the time, so this is particularly annoying.

I actually considered finding a programmer and paying them to build a program similar to Irfanview, but for OSX, because I miss it so much. Anyway, sorry for he gripe session -- if I find anything I'll post it all over the place, but until then, good luck.
