Better Ping on my Mac?!?!

I dont know why, but WoW has much better ping on my mac than my PC.
My gaming rig gets like more than twice the ping my mac does.
Everytime i mention it, people just keep bashing me and saying there are others reasons for it.

ie: i built my comp wrong, my network card sucks, im close to the server etc.

THe one dilemna, though, is that everyone i talk to is getting roughly the same ping as my PC. About 100-150.
My mac never goes above 60 and hovers around 40 most of the time. I can really feel it in arenas. On my PC there's a slight delay in each spell, but on my mac i can execute abilities much quicker. Its not major, but in competitive play every little milisecond counts. I dont know the reason but i just wanted you guys to know about it.

I live in LA and play on Stormscale if anybody cared to know.

Could be the network card and/or drivers for the network card. I am assuming both are on wired network ? Try swapping the cables around, I know sounds silly but very very small chance good to rule out.

So, if you really can get a 40ms ping, and most people are closer to 100ms, you probably are closer to the server. Good news for you. As to what would explain the difference in pings between the machines...

When I used an old 100baseT Asante router, it added milliseconds to my ping. My current 1000baseT DLink is less than .1ms. Are both machines plugged into the same router? Is the PC on wireless? Despite the fantastic throughput that 802.11n will give, it still adds milliseconds of latency. If the Mac is wired and the PC isn't, I'd probably stop the investigation there.

If the network topology is identical, then you really need to consider that your PC might be inferior in some way. Maybe the network card is sub standard or you have some old drivers. There's nothing too fancy about how a Mac does networking.

Both machines are plugged into the same router wired. Actually the ironic thing is, when im on wireless on my mac i get the same ping as my PC thats wired lol.

I heard something like not just Mac OS X but Unix in general has better network code/management or whatever than windows, but i never confirmed it.

But ya, both machines are plugged into the same router with ethernet cables. I tried everything to get my PC to get to the same ping but nothing worked.

There was even a "lag fix" for PC's that you could download for WoW, it helped my ping a bit but still didnt come close to my Mac ping.

Install Windows on the Mac and see if you get good or bad ping times. Good = PC hardware issue. Bad = Mac OS is better than Windows.

Good idea. Unfortunately i cancelled my WoW subscription a long time ago(was using my friends, whose account is currently inactive as well).

Also, i cant find my Windows CD so i cant install bootcamp(and dont really plan to lol).

Id rather use the hard drive space for videos and 48khz wav files =).

*Could anyone else try this out? Id recommend doing it on a server where your Mac gets good ping like around 40-80(just make a new char. and walk around.)

I noticed the exact same thing when i switched from PC to Mac. Same router, same network, same internet service. My only explanation... we dont suffer from all the nonsense mal-ware/spyware/viri/daily updates that constantly talk to the internet. down with pc's and their BS making internetworks slow and unreliable.

it happened when i had to update Itunes to login....
