I like Evernote, I can take lecture notes that i take in college, and i can create folders for physiology for example and store all my physiology notes in that folder and all this is uploaded to my iphone over the internet, but the issue I'm having is that i can't backup all the database from evernote to a single file so that if something happens i always have a copy of my notes. Is there an iphone application like evernote that allows to do the backup of my notes database on my hard disk?

In the evernote mac application you can right click on "all notebooks" and then click on export notes. It's not automatic tho so you might want to keep that in consideration.
I had the same problem, that's why i'm using Take a Note, which has wi-fi sync with my pc and I can keep everythung synched or just drag and drop text files and notes.
You are missing a piece of Evernote or do not understand its full functionality. This App stores your notes in 3 DIFFERENT locations.
First your notes sync to your iPhone and if you code them as favorites then they are stored on the iPhone and available anytime/anywhere.
Second your notes are stored on Evernotes servers. These I am almost positive are backed up by Evernote and your chance of loss is nill.
Third your notes are stored on your desktop if you have installed the desktop version on your computer. The desktop software also allows you to use it as a cut and paste tool for transferring web pages and pictures to your iPhone.
If you use Evernote with all of its tools and know all of the functions, you will never loose any data and you will have what you want when you want it. File Magic or AirSharing only stores docs and in some cases allows you to edit. These are not even close to the full capabilities of Evernote.
I also use Evernote for college and my professors even let me shoot photos of the whiteboard notes with my Evernote App. NO more writing and I can expand the photo's to read them better when I get home. I also can record lectures with Evernote and translate when I get home. You can go to your online courses and with Evernote select the assignment and transfer it as a document to Evernote to use as study guide any where any time.
I am sorry but after two years of being an iPhone owner...Evernote is my most used and most effective app for what it does in linking my computer/iphone/college all together into one huge portable study/note taking guide.

I prefer Momo. Evernote is decent, but I hate not having access to a note till I sync it then redownload it to my iPhone again. It wastes battery life. Momo has password protection, sync to an online service, tags, full featured search, and photo notes. Take A Note is also not bad, but the audio quality of the recording was not clear at times, and the app doesn't open to a password.
Again...if you mark a note or clip as a favorite...NO DOWNLOAD required. It saves the doc to your iPhone and gives you access anytime anywhere...without any connection needed. Does not waste ANY battery life other then to view what is in favorites.
Account is password protected if you log in/out. My iPhone is password protected, why do I need Evernote to be password protected on top of the iPhone?
Evernote sync's to online services, tags, has full featured search and photo notes as well all usable on iPhone and Computer and online. My recordings are just as good as recorder so have dropped that app because i don't need it anymore.
So with that, I still stand by Evernote as you have not sold me on anything better.

You can also find the data folders and then set them up to be backed up for even more protection.
The day both Evernote and your PC/Mac fail is essential zero.
I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but I turned off 3G uploading in settings, created a new note, and now I can't view the note until I've uploaded it to Evernote online then redownloaded the note to my iPhone, after which I can mark a note as a favorite and view it offline.
So if that's the case, I still can't view new notes till I've uploaded it to Evernote and downloaded it again to iPhone. I usually only sync Momo when I've got my iPhone plugged into power, and I can view all my new notes before I sync them to Momo online.
Not sure why you posted this as it takes common sense.
If you create the note on your iPhone, it will stay there until you sync...therefore its available.
If you create the note on your computer, of course you will have to sync to Evernote, then you will have to sync your iPhone, mark it as a favorite and sync back to tell your account its a favorite....geeesh, how else will it know? And if you dont sync from your computer how does it get to your iPhone...your being nit picky and IMO lazy.
Stay with your Mama...i mean Momo if it makes you happier, no one is forcing you to change.
You are definitely wrong. I've looked through all the settings and tried everything, and the note always goes to pending first (can't view the note there), then it uploads to Evernote online, and then when you go to Notes, it downloads to the Note section.
It's set up that way so people are encouraged to get the Pro Evernote service, the app itself is free to try and get people hooked on their service.

i am a brandnew evernote user--just downloaded today. i need to see my notes when i am offline w/my itouch.
1. how do i code my notes on favorites on the itouch? i don't see the start when i am looking at a note.
2. to sync w/itouch, does it sync when i sync my itouch w/my mac? or do i need to go to the evernote web site?

1) Select one of your notes that you want to have constant access to. In the upper left corner under the "Notes" back button is a faint star. Touch it and it will turn blue and be available offline after your next sync.
2) For your touch to sync you will need a wifi connection and an evernote account. You can set up a free account on line at the website. Once you have a wifi connection and account then as soon as you open the app on your touch it auto syncs...you don't have to do anything.

4) I also use firefox and webclipper works great. Only thing you need to do is highlight the desired area you want copied and click the elephant icon at the top of firefox. Mine is next to my home icon. It should auto open the program and paste your selection or the whole web page in the desktop app. Then you will have to sync it once you have edited what you want to keep.

1. If you select "Notes" when you open the app, look at the top and there is a search bar. Just type your tag name in and it will show.
2. I honestly have not looked or needed to. Try the web site and see if they provide instructions or send them an email. They have pretty good customer service.

Sorry for old thread revival, but I'm curious about people who use Evernote for school notes. Do you take the notes directly within the Evernote program? Or are you using some other method? I signed up for evernote recently, but haven't had much use for it during the summer months. I also have Dropbox. I will be getting a macbook pro for school and am trying to decide my methods ahead of time.
I can just use documents that are saved to dropbox for access anywhere and sharing with friends if need be. I wont be able to access them on my ipod touch, but I will have my laptop with me anyways typically.
Or I can take notes with evernote, and can access them from anywhere, inlcuding my ipod touch. Only thing is if the teacher publishes some slideshows which is common, I can't really bring those into Evernote, as it only allows pdfs and basic text files.

I am unable to answer your question fully. With the free account you have ZERO password protection other then at the phone level. The app itself has no password protection. This may be different if you have a paid account...i dont know and will not pay them to find out. I purchased the app and that should be enough...shouldnt have to pay for security...if it is even available.

You can only do the initial password protection for your notes on the Windows or Mac desktop, but you can decrypt on the iPhone with your password, and it encrypts again as soon as you leave the note. For the moment, that's sufficient for me, since I'm migrating from my Treo 650 (which lasted almost 5 years), and my biggest iPhone gripe was the lack of password-protected memos. I already have all those protected memos on my Palm desktop, so it's fairly easy for me to just paste them over to the Evernote desktop and encrypt them. Yay!
