Beware: 10.11.2, Mac Pro 2013 will not wake up 4k Displays

I have installed 10.11.2 today and found the Mac Pro will not wake up the 4k displays connected to thunderbolt ports. I tried many kinds of 4k displays including u28e590d, u24e590d, p2716q etc, but none of them would wake up after sleep. the only resolution is to unplug and replug the thunderbolt (display port) cable to a different thunderbolt port.
those displays all work perfectly with 10.11 and 10.11.1.

Steps to Reproduce:
1: have a Mac Pro 2013, any configurations and install 10.11.2
2: plug a 4k display like u28e590d to thunderbolt port using mini-displayport cable.
3: let the Mac Pro go sleep
4: when press a key or click the mouse, the Mac Pro will wake up but the 4k display will not wake up.

anyone is experiencing the same problem?

Does the issue persist after running a PRAM reset (hold Cmd, Alt, P, R on startup until you hear the Apple boot chime 3 times, then let go)?

Hmm, definitely confirms it's software then. Not sure what else to try beyond volume verification or restore TM backup from earlier OS iteration. I guess it's just a case of submitting a bug report and possibly turning sleep mode off for the time being.

Hopefully a few other posters on the same OS/nMP will be able to confirm if it happens for them as well.
 
Some years ago there was the curious issue that the MacMini did not awake the display when the Mac was awoken via a key pressed on the keyboard. However by awaking the Mac with the rear power button, the display did wake up just fine.

It's a little bit far stretched, but try to wake the MacPro with the rear power button instead of the keyboard/mouse. Perhaps this makes a difference?

Thank you for the suggestion , I have tried it but didn't work XD
 
I have 3 dell up2414q that sometimes have trouble waking up (one wakes up, others not ...) with 11.10.2, so far at least, these problems did not occur anymore. Among the latest versions of osx, the 11.10.1 was the worst for me (regarding this issue)

Interesting. I submitted a bug report for the last two beta versions of 10.11.2 because they wouldn't wake up the Samsung S34E790C (34" 3440x1440 ultra wide monitor) attached to my nMP. Apple responded and asked me to provide more info, which I did, and I haven't run into the issue - yet - with the final 10.11.2 build. However, it was an intermittent issue, so it's possible it could show up again.
 
So far so good here. I have 3 Dell 4k monitors hooked up to my nMP. Wasn't expecting all to be running at 60hz at full resolution. Still waking up after the 10.11.2 update.

I have a nMacpro 8c/64/6gb Graphics and two original Apple 30 inch Cinema displays. That always worked using DVI on my old Mac Pro but when I switched to the mini plug on the old Mac Pro and now the new Mac Pro one or other of the displays intermittently doesn't wake up and I have to pull the plug and replace and this fixes it. I assumed it was a problem with the two Kanex dual link DVI convertors, but I have tried the Apple versions and they are worse and a third party version from Amazon which was dreadful. Just wondering if it is a comms error in the convertor plug?

Yup, I spoke too soon -- it's definitely still screwed up. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one though.
 
My nMP running 10.11.2 will not recognize my displays now. I have to restore to .1 tonight. This stinks. There is no reason for a problem like this to be released live. I never install betas on this machine, and 10.11.2 behaves like a beta build.

Yup, t's definitely frustrating, especially since Apple knew about the problem at least two builds ago.

In the meantime, while your computer is powered on, try switching which Thunderbolt ports your monitors are connected to. After they light up, you can tell the OS to never let them go to sleep (if this is a viable option for you) and then turn them off and on manually until a fix is released.

Switching the ports doesn't seem to help. Forced reboot required. The screen saver also never kicks in under 10.11.2 despite settings manipulation.

The restore to .1 is almost done.

Shame, Apple, shame!
 
It's like they don't bother testing different configurations anymore.

Because everyone's Mac Pro setup looks something like this, right Apple?

Not trying to hijack, but anybody knows if this problem exists with nVidia cards on cMP too or is it isolated to nMP?

That's interesting I'd love to hear what the difference in wake sequence is between the two ways.
 
I can confirm this is happening on my nMP with two Dell P2415Q 4K monitors attached. The only thing that got it to wake was to unplug and replug the displayport cable for one of the two monitors. Once I did that, both monitors woke up. Very annoyed to discover this.

I have two Dell P2715Q 4K displays and having the same intermittent issues described here that started with 11.2.

It doesn't happen every time - actually kind of weird because the last two mornings in a row, they woke up without incident, but the last two evenings in a row (upon returning from the office), they wouldn't wake up.

Unplugging one of them from the TB port and plugging it into a different TB port appears to force them to wakeup.
