This is pissing me off I went to the at&t site to see where I was with text messages. *yes I'm still on the 200 messages list and no I will NEVER pay $20 bucks for unlimited*

It looks like Palringo counts towards your Text Messages, I've gone over 120.
I don't know how much I will be paying :(

It sucks, this is supposed to be using the internet, damn you at&t

No mention of that on the iTunes site. Take it up with Apple. Has AT&T actually confirmed it's using up texts? You checked?

I highly doubt that it is. Have you used AIM instead?

Where on the AT&T site can you check sent text messages? I know I have ssent 0 text messages from my phone and used Palringo a lot.. so I could verify. I thought you used to be able to see it from the myAccount area, butr I can't find it now.

I don't think this is even possible. I'm almost positive apps can't just send SMSs in the background without any user intervention. They could send SMSs from the server to your phone, but if this isn't happening, there's no way Palringo is sending txts from your phone.

There is no way its using text messages. AOL cant associate a screen name with a cellphone without you GIVING them the cell number.

I used AIM and Palringo... Still don't have any SMS charged to my account, and it's all been data... Just like it's supposed to.

I've used to for windows mobile and even on their site they have said that it runs off of data and not text messages.

Time to change the mislesading thread title perhaps OP?

Sounds like the AIM idea might be likely...
Your provider could give you timings as to when these mysterious texts have been occuring...

Hey tom! Its been a while since I've seen you! Anyways, to the OP - no, it's not. The only possible way (as far as I know, that is...) is because you were excessivley texting.

If you're receiving SMS text messages you're STILL using up your SMS amount. You have no choice when other people text you. Is there a way to turn off incoming text messages?

I dont know how someone can live with only 250 texts a month. I use about 4000 texts a month. Unlimited <3

Loving my lack of a texting plan and the text block on my account. If it's not important enough to make a call then it's not important enough for me to spend money receiving it.

I have AIM installed but it's pretty useless without background checking..can't wait till they get that implemented in the future.

You are the second person to spread this false information.

Learn how SMS messaging works and stop starting bad rumors.

SMS messages count 1 for incoming and 1 for outgoing. You have actually sent/received that many messages.

None of this apps are linked in anyway that AT&T could charge them as SMS messages.

SO PLEASE STOP STARTING THIS STUPID RUMORS.
