BF2, Crossover, Install doesn't get passed first disk.

Hello all,
First time imac or mac owner. After talking extensively with two mac authorized dealers and picking their 'brains', each location said that with the 20inch, 2.4, 2gigram imac, that with crossover I should have no problems running bf2. Well, after entering my serial codes it begins copying files and then gives me a message that the install failed and I need to start from the beginning again.

After the second time I figured either I am doing this wrong or both places were incorrect. Anyone know what I may be doing wrong. I had to choose unsupported software or something like that because bf2 wasn't listed.

Any help would be great.

bf2 is currently NOT supported by crossover http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=1316

some ppl reports it working with 0.9.51 version of wine in Ubuntu gutsy. But still alot of problems if you read the comment.

You should try bootcamp to run the game in windows.

Thanks. I read through that site and it said it wasn't supported. Actually I didn't see that exact page where it states not to even try to install it. I wonder why the apple dudes claim it would work. I guess i will bring that back and get a clean copy of xp. All my discs have already been activated. And I think most are just in some sort of restore disc.

Crossover is never a good idea. Support is EXTREMELY limited. Stick to Vmware fusion for basic acceleration through virtualization or bootcamp for straight up native.

Sorry for the new guy questions.

I downloaded the demo version of vmware (1.37gigs) and I have no idea on how to install what's in that file. I see executables but imac doesn't know what program to associate them with. Any help on how to install those/that files?

PS. Im not sure VM can handle a 3D graphic intense game like BF2, bootcamp might be a better way to go.

CrossOver actually works better than full windows installation for MacBook (no GPU) for games such as Team Fortress 2.

VMWare or Parallels won't work so well for BF. If you want to try anyway, go to macupdate.com or versiontracker.com and search for vmware or such.

In this case the OP should use bootcamp.

I setup Bootcamp. Installed Xp on 32gigs FAT32 partition. Ran BF2 on it's highest settings and resolution and had fps around 50 to 60. Then lowered to 1028-ish to 768 or whichever that option is with some on high and some on medium and my fps was between 70 and high 90's. Playable with decent ping between 20 and 30 and those fps. Still not sure why it is jerky at times given those stats. Still very nice though.. Thanks for all the help.

well, try keep up with apple's update of bootcamp. many drivers apple offered aren't good enough yet.
