BF2142 faster in Snow Leopard?

I just tried Battlefield 2142 for the first time in an age, now that I've got Snow Leopard installed.

It appears that the performance of the game has somewhat improved. I can now run the game with decent performance at the Medium preset and 1024 768 resolution, whereas before on Leopard my MacBook Pro was struggling desperately with everything set to Low.

Judging from this improvement and the Dock performance improvement (that I described here), Apple appears to have updated the NVidia graphics drivers or something to similar effect.

Has anyone else noticed this improvement in Snow Leopard?

It's funny, I started this thread a few days ago, before the 10.6 launch.

I've had constant issue with BF2142 for Mac to do with lag when playing. 10.6 appears to have resolved this - the game is playable, apparently lag free.

I spoke too soon, my performance is still erratic and textures are flickering all the time.

I think the "lag" that I described is less, but the game is just not playable. I run BF2142 regularly in Vista - fairly stable, 100FPS, no lag. If I use Mac - stable, 30-75FPS, lag, messed up textures.

Do you guys know if any of the other BF games will play. I have Vietnam and 1942 - neither would play due to Direct X issues.

Do you mean via something like CrossOver?

I've not played 1942 or Vietnam for Mac, not sure if they're UB or even available for OS X.

Not sure what you mean by, "neither would play..." , Was it on a Mac you tried, I'm assuming so.

In the Wine compatibility search using Cross Over, 1942 was given a gold and all others either brass, or didn't work at all.

You could always setup Boot Camp with your flavor of Windows and or along with VMWare, but obviously a direct boot to windows would be best for full hardware support and with proper drivers for windows.

I personally went the Boot Camp way and using Windows Vista was able to play many of my favorite Windows PC games. Just be sure the hardware on your Mac is compatible to play with the frame rate and other quality issues you may have. Remember much of the hardware in even the latest Macs are not exactly top notch for gaming, but excellent for everything else in my opinion. Even recently with a newer iMac in my arsenal, have been attempting to use more native for Mac games.

The only two I find my self playing are old titles for my PC, like BF1942 (still locating all the needed mod files for my favorite BF mods) and Quake Live!.

Battlefield series are available for Mac, only EA sells them through Aspyre a company that without a better description converts and redistributes the EA titles for Apple Mac gaming fans.

If I locate the mod files for BF also, I will try to come back and update this post with a link to them. I did hear from a BF player on a server today to check MacFiles.com, which I will do sometime soon.

Good luck, as I too am looking to replace much of my windows gaming with using my Macs without having a Mac Pro at this point, Im still in the mid to low end in hardware. With my PC it was up to date with all the latest hardware and gaming software, but since using more Macs for my design work and hobbies alike, I am looking to continue along the path of one line of hardware other than many, although my work allows me to use or create most of anything I need in the PC array.
