Hi, i was wondering how well BF3 would run on a 1st gen Mac Pro quad core, and what graphics card would i need for it?

Both 5770 and 5870 aren't officially supported but they works great out of the box on all Mac Pros.
About processor speed: take a look at game's requisites... 2,66GHz is not that high but if the game is multicore aware maybe those CPU would give you a nice gameplay in almost any condition (maybe not at highest resolutions).

OP, i play on my 1st gen mac pro with the 5770. That card can run on high settings just fine, but the processors are maxed at 100% no matter what the settings and it does impact gameplay sometimes. I am looking to build a gaming rig cause i often get frustrated playing with these limitations, but if that's your only option like it is for me right now, you can play on it.

I play this game with a 2.66ghz mac pro 1,1 with one of the CPU's pulled. I have a 4890 1gb and it runs phenomenal
Hmm, wonder what you're doing differently. what are your settings? how much ram? which version of windows?
Change of plan! This Saturday coming i will be collecting a 2009 2.26GHZ 8Core Mac Pro with 6GB ram.... the 5870 graphics card will be added later! Hopefully BF3 will run nicely!
Hmm, i'm running windows 7 64bit, with 4gb ram, which it only ever uses 65% while playing, but it runs pretty lousy and processors are always maxed at 100%.
