Big Annoying Problem with App Store

Okay, so right now, I have 10.6.8 Snow Leopard running on my 2012 iMac. Every time I click "Get" in the App Store to download something, nothing happens. I can't download ANYTHING. This is really frustrating because I want to download Yosemite. I even went so far as to reinstall Snow Leopard to see if that would fix my App Store issue. Nope. Still nothing. It's really pissing me right off. And of course when I try to get ahold of tech support it's a bunch of bull. If ANYONE could help me out, it'd be greatly appreciated!

Having that problem myself with a 2007 Macbook, everything you click to download goes grey but nothing happens.

Exactly. I also tried to download apps on my macbook pro running snow leopard and nothing. So, I'm assuming there is an issue with the OS X altogether. Perhaps an update to the App Store screwed everyone with Snow Leopard...

Your best bet is to get Yosemite from external source (torrent) create a USB installer and install it.

It needs to be bootable, some people have doubts about the OS being modified if downloaded via torrent but you can install Yosemite (torrent version), and get it up and running then download the App store version, create another installer and install it.

What do you mean bootable? I can't just put the .dmg file on disc, pop it in and open it?

Anyway, if it is indeed a 2012 model, you can erase & install whatever it actually shipped with (e.g. Mountain Lion or Mavericks) by following the steps in http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201376 with one difference - instead of holding Command-R, hold Command-Option-R to get into Internet Recovery.

If it's actually an older Mac and legitimately running Snow Leopard, ignore all the above because it won't help.

No, you can't.

Read the linked article. It describes the exact procedure one must go through.
