It's probably a good deal, but that's a lot of money for a partial warranty and so close to a refresh.
Unless you really need the Mac now, you'll be in a better position to compare after the new iMacs are on sale, and ... prices on all previous models will take a hit.
Question is, of course, are they really coming out within the next 2 weeks or so?
well if a refurb is 2400
http://store.apple.com/us/product/G0JP2LL/A?mco=MjEwNjA3Mzk and sales tax makes it 2736 the extra 1tb hdd is another 200 and the ram gets it close to 3k. he is paying 2250.
the real question is ;
DOES THE SELLER HAVE REAL PAPERWORK! does the seller have real paperwork?
does the seller have all paperwork and can you transfer it to your name.
then whats on the warranty. was this a july 2010 purchase or a feb 2011 purchase.
I sold about 100 upgraded mac minis/ mac book pros and mac pros. I always had paper work and the new buyer could transfer the machine to him/her self and add applecare. The machine is worth 2k to 2.25k if it has legit paperwork and you can transfer it to your self then add applecare.
I would ask about paperwork and
ask to pay ;
2250 if it is 1 month old
2220 if it is 2 months old
2200 if it is 3 months old
2180 if it is 4 months old
2160 if it is 5 months old
(Note to mods this is not an attempt to sell or advertise )
I am showing an old listing on ebay of a mac pro I sold. As an example:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...93896&ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT#ht_5349wt_1494
The buyer got a machine that was about 40 days old. He got a ram upgrade and he got apple care that i tossed in as a bonus.
he saved about 1.1k over a new mac pro and only about 500 over a refurbed mac pro. savings were based on california sales tax rate plus other details.
He was happy and it was a good deal because all the paperwork is legit. Also getting the hex 3.33 refurb can take months of looking at the apple online store.
!!Don't buy the iMac if you don't trust the seller or the ability to transfer it to you!!.
