Waiting for the new Imac (going from pc to mac for the first time).

I can buy a used Imac 27 I7 2.93 with 8gb of ram.
1TB+256SSD and ATI Radeon 5750 with original box for 2250$. And apple wranty is still good.

Should i wait for the new Imac !? It seem like a very good price for me...

It's only 150$ less than refurb (plus the RAM). It's a decent deal but I would try to get the price closer to 2000$. Tell him that refurb is nearly the same price and it has full warranty and is basically unused.

Current iMacs are great but if you do something CPU or GPU intensive, then waiting for a new one should be worth it.

This refurb don't have the 1TB drive drive and like you said 4gb of ram.
But I live in the province of Quebec Canada and taxes are 14%! This would add another 300$ if I buy it new.
I can't find really anything about new Imac beside thunderbolt and sandybrige.
I know thunderbolt but are sandybridge processor really faster?

Depends what you do. Sandy Bridge won't speed up Safari or other simple tasks. If you do something like video, photo or music editing, or 3D modeling and stuff like that, then Sandy Bridge will give you a nice boost.

It's probably a good deal, but that's a lot of money for a partial warranty and so close to a refresh.
Unless you really need the Mac now, you'll be in a better position to compare after the new iMacs are on sale, and ... prices on all previous models will take a hit.
Question is, of course, are they really coming out within the next 2 weeks or so?

well if a refurb is 2400

http://store.apple.com/us/product/G0JP2LL/A?mco=MjEwNjA3Mzk and sales tax makes it 2736 the extra 1tb hdd is another 200 and the ram gets it close to 3k. he is paying 2250.

the real question is ;

DOES THE SELLER HAVE REAL PAPERWORK! does the seller have real paperwork?

does the seller have all paperwork and can you transfer it to your name.

then whats on the warranty. was this a july 2010 purchase or a feb 2011 purchase.

I sold about 100 upgraded mac minis/ mac book pros and mac pros. I always had paper work and the new buyer could transfer the machine to him/her self and add applecare. The machine is worth 2k to 2.25k if it has legit paperwork and you can transfer it to your self then add applecare.

I would ask about paperwork and

ask to pay ;

2250 if it is 1 month old
2220 if it is 2 months old
2200 if it is 3 months old
2180 if it is 4 months old
2160 if it is 5 months old

(Note to mods this is not an attempt to sell or advertise )

I am showing an old listing on ebay of a mac pro I sold. As an example:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...93896&ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT#ht_5349wt_1494

The buyer got a machine that was about 40 days old. He got a ram upgrade and he got apple care that i tossed in as a bonus.

he saved about 1.1k over a new mac pro and only about 500 over a refurbed mac pro. savings were based on california sales tax rate plus other details.

He was happy and it was a good deal because all the paperwork is legit. Also getting the hex 3.33 refurb can take months of looking at the apple online store.

!!Don't buy the iMac if you don't trust the seller or the ability to transfer it to you!!.

It will be for music with logic 9 and I just bought a brand new Dslr camera
canon 60D with 18-200 lens so I'll do photo and video also.
He said that he have the paperwork and that the waranty ends in august 2011.

Wait for the new one!
Btw, I have the same camera and lens, it's great hey.

The SSD is the only thing that makes it attractive. rest is a wash.

and its too hard to tell what the new iMacs might do or come with.

For example, the $1500 13" MBP now has an i7 chip -- and its faster than the previous top of the line 17" MBP. thats a pretty significant jump.

In CPU performance, yes. However, it's significantly slower in GPU performance due to the Intel IGP. Even the 320M found in previous gen 13" MBP is faster.

Its a good deal. If you need a machine ASAP, then accept the deal, but as someone said, get the price closer to $2,000. Honestly, if you can wait, wait it out for the new refresh. It will really be worth the wait in the long run. I've learned the hard-way with my Macbook Pro (2009) that I bought 3 months before a refresh.

Only buy it if you truly need it. I think the money would better be spent on new unused hardware with proper warranty.

If you are spending that much wouldn't you rather have all new equipment with sandy bridge, thunderbolt and most like an updated gpu. Even if you have to spend some extra $$$ I think it would be worth it to wait.
