I don't want to make this a "Look at the iPhone killers" post, but when I look at all of the new hardware and incredibly appealing OS's coming out for new phones such as the HTC Incredible, it gets me pretty stoked to see what Apple is going to do. I think for the first time in iPhone history Apple truly has some big expectations to step up to. In the past when I have seen "iPhone Killers" come out all I ever did was sit back an laugh, but I think for the first time I'm actually looking at these new phones and thinking "Man, if the new iPhone isn't epic ... I may actually get something different." which is huge for me since I truly enjoy the convenience of my "Apple Lifestyle" with most of my gadgets being of Apple origin. I guess I just never thought I would see the day when there truly was some decent competition with the iPhone, and now that it's here ( In my humble opinion ) it's a good thing ... Competition always spurs the greatest innovation.

Is there anyone else out there that is feeling like the new iPhone hardware actually finally has some competition?

all i ever wanted from apple iphone was decent multi tasking , and now they have it, so nothing compares to iPhone :)

i'll be getting an iPad or the new iPhone soon :D

All I know is that a little speed boost and a few "new features" (features that arnt really new, just new to the iPhone) is not going to cut it.

If there is nothing really impressive added to the new phone, the one thing that will keep the iPhone success is the Apple logo attached to it...and we all know it.

If you listen carefully to the keynote, youll notice Steve saying: "The iPhone 3gs and 3rd Generation iPod Touch will support all of the features YOU HAVE SEEN HERE TODAY.

There will be more, dont worry.

I would think he'd keep some sweet features for the release event for the new iPhone. Otherwise it'd be like.....here's the new phone....cool.....yay.....

Oh I'm sure there will be more features revealed with the hardware but what I'm getting at is along the lines with what DaGreat01 said ... It's going to have to be something with "wow factor" that puts it above the others this year.

I don't think there are any serious threats to the iPhone, but there are a lot of people going to BB and Android. But when the new iPhone comes out, it's game over.

iPhone is by far the leader, but Android is rising and rising.. so in another year, if Android's growth will continue Apple has to take some action to gain power again.

Some features i think the new iPhone will have:

  • Better photographic lens (better pictures+video)
  • Very slim design (maybe not a slim as the iPod Touch but still)
  • Lovely titanium finish (lighter and stronger)
  • LED screen with more resolution and better colors
  • A lot faster processor (A4 processor like the iPad ?)
  • More memory (since OS4 supports multitasking)
  • Better battery life
  • Safari update (faster, and with orientation lock.. god i hope so!!!!)
  • Coffeecupholder :p

Not only Android, but HTC too.

And yea, those bullets would be like the 3GS release all over agin. Pretty good features, but still disappointing.

Ew. Why would they ever use a metal....garbage for reception from what I understand.

Because there is a good portion of iPhone users ( myself included ) that believe the 2G was the most elegant looking of them all. Apple wanted the aluminum body from the beginning yet it did create some reception problems. I wouldn't put it past Apple to be innovative enough to get around this though ... Think about it, the iPad is aluminum and it will soon have a 3G version ... They're working on it.

i agree 2g is the best looking iphone :D
and im sure sooner or later iphone's going aluminum again ... or at-least that same color like the bottom portion of the mpb's

I'm curious to see how much of the hardware Apple will actually change in the next batch. I can't imagine it would be that great considering the iPad's specs.

I personally feel that Apple is starting to fall behind on the hardware aspect, and bank that their OS will cover the ground - also that and them bragging about the 150,000 + apps that they have.

i disagree with a few things here, namely the titanium finish as this would affect signal strength.

OLED screen sure.

Id bloody love a coffee cup holder!

Yeah...no. It looks nice but physics is physics. Apple can't defy the laws of nature.

It's sad that some people seem to think they can :)

I have an old Samsung phone and an old Motorola SLVR that are both made completely out of aluminum apart from the screen and keypad ... How is it that these phones had great signal and people believe Apple can't do it. It's really not that difficult.

Plastic sprayed with metallic paint is not the same as Aluminium.

I'm personally really excited to see what hardware HTC couples with Windows Phone 7 when it's finally released later this year. I don't believe it will be an "iPhone killer" but I am interested to see how the UI works beyond focussed tech demos.
