BIG Important Question

CAN the 2.93 GHZ/3.06 GHZ imac with the ATI HD Graphics card be able to run nearly all games (all decent new games anyways)? Mostly referring to Crysis, Sims 3 etc
???


This is a BIG question for me cause i plan to always test out the new games SOMETIMES (maybe one new game every two months) and occasionally one or two games a year are keepers which i play a lot.


Will the ATI be OK to handle MOST new games now and in 2-3 years from now? (until i think about an upgrade)

I know the OLD iMacs can handle Crysis OK on medium settings so the ATI is supposedly heaps better i guess it can handle Crysis good and the majority of games.


Just need a confirmation on this cause i am unsure. It basically comes down to me playing a game now and then ( say i play a game once a month - and i don't mean finish a game i just mean casual playing) with the exception of the Sims 2 which i play all the time.

I just want to be reassured that this iMac can handle good games when i want to play them.


AND PLEASE i have posted once before on this and nobody answered i know i may sound dumb in this area but please place input for everybody not just me

Some or most games will not run on OSX. but if you you bootcamp on to windows you mite be okay but i am not sure how the hardware will go with new-ish games.

Well all I can say is that I am going to get the cheapest iMac and hope to play StarCraft II, Diablo III and The Old Republic when they all come out.

Don't know if this help but I have Vista running under Bootcamp on a 7,1 iMac 2.4gHz late 2007 edition with a Radeon HD2600 256Mb with 3Gb RAM.

COD4 runs well enough to play online at medium settings and EverQuest 2 runs at full resolution, medium settings. Oblivion runs nicely too.

Actually, I'm going from memory with the settings, they're not set to the lowest anyway.

I've been reading that the 9400M isn't too good for gaming.
Not sure how the HD2600 will handle Snow Leopard though . . .

How can anyone answer that question when the machine isn't out yet?

All you have are pre-production benchmarks from Apple.

If you need more evidence, wait a month and check out some decent Mac benchmark sites, such as barefeats.com

If you're talking about the 4850 then yes, it can handle most games today. It's currently the best bang for the buck video card in the PC realm

On my C2D 2.13Ghz with a 4850 PCI-E 512MB I can play every single game maxed out without issue (Clone.. not an iMac). Mind you it's on a 20" (1680 by 1050) LCD...

The only factor I could see as an issue would be if Apple is using the 4850 Mobility version and not the desktop version of the graphic chip...

Only time will tell....
