Hi All,

I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports), 2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 with 16gb RAM. I use it for Lightroom and photoshop + browsing. From reading the review it appears the new MBP is a bit of an upgrade interims of speed and battery but I have a question on use with a big external monitor.

I have a samsung Odyssey G9 49 inch screen with a resolution of 5120 * 1440. My current MBP is connected via USB C and works well with it. Will the M1 be able to output at this resolution with the shell open and closed?

If I do swap to the M1 will there be any downside vs my current model apart from the loss of 2 ports? Note The MBP goes into a Elgato thunderbolt 3 dock anyway.

Thanks for any help. ps. Man maths has kicked in. my son is off to Uni and his MBA is old so he could have my pro and I can sell the Air. Winners all round ;)

Josh

I have the same monitor and plan to buy the Mac Mini so i am interested aswell.

I THINK that we can have the full 5120x1440 resolution but at 60Hz instead of 120-240!

I am hoping it will work given the ”Power” of the M1 seems to be considerable compared to my Current MBP

If anyone can confirm that would be great.

All three of the new Macs can support up to 6k resolution at 60Hz, so your 5120x1440 screen should be fully supported as well.
