Big Music Directory Problem (might not be iTunes)

This might sound a bit complicated, but I will try to explain it as I understand (which is sadly simplistic).

When I import music to my computer, I use Musicmatch Jukebox because I like how it files the songs. I save all of my music in one main folder on my hard drive, which is seperate from my iTunes folder.

I just recently got a new computer, and through a USB link, I transfered this entire 20-some GB folder to my new computer with no noticable problems. Today, I opened one of the albums within the folder and come to find that there are many duplicate and misnamed tracks that I had absolutely nothing to do with! How is this possible? The only difference I have noticed between the old and new computer is that Musicmatch began as the default player for all music files, but I can't imagine that making any difference. As of right now, there is no music in my Musicmatch library, and as far as I can tell no way to possibly form new tracks with wrong information. The only thing I have done with these tracks is place them in my iTunes library. I am completely confused... any help please?

I don't know that I fully understand what's happened. I don't use Music Match so I probably won't be very helpful.

In iTunes, are the preferences set to copy music to the iTunes Music folder (or whatever folder you choose) when adding?

Yes, when I add music to my iTunes, it sends a copy to the iTunes music folder. However, I really never open the iTunes music folder... instead I use my own personally directory (folder) to better organize all of my music.

So the issue has absolutely nothing to do with the iTunes Music folder then? Sorry if I'm asking really stupid questions, it's really hot at the moment.

Does this mean you have your music in the Music Match folders and the iTunes folder? Is the problem that your Music Match seems to be filing your songs strangely (the double ups and misnamed tracks)?

Here's what I have: My own organization of all of music in a folder called "Music". This is what I'd consider the "master file" for all of my music, as it's where everything is the way I like it, and it's the folder I'd use to transfer any msuci files, etc.

The iTunes music folder, as it is created by default. I've done nothing to tamper with this folder as far as I know, nor do I ever use/open it.

As far as I know, there is no Musicmatch folder. When I open Musicmatch, there are no songs in my "library". I'm not sure what is filing (extra) songs strangely and misnaming things, but I suspect it might be Musicmatch. The reason for my confusing posts and poorly assembled sentances is that I'm too confused myself to ask for help on an exact issue.

Sorry I can't help other than to remind you (and recommend) that iTunes is generally best left to look after its own files to prevent this sort of thing. I realise you prefer the file system of Music Match but I recommend you have another look at iTunes for importing. Remember that you can burn data disks from iTunes too.

Sorry, but I've got no experience with Music Match so I've got absolutely no idea how you could be getting this weird file set up.

This might be of some help, when ever I use my mates formatted fat-32 usb drive on my mac. The result is that two of the same files gets copied over when read by a Windows PC. I don't know why though For eg, a word .doc will be copied one that has the original 'name.doc' the other named differently such as '$me%' with no .doc ending.

In other words seeing that it was being copied from one format to another gave 2 files. Problem is I don't kow why, so this aint much help I guess
