Just thought I would relay a cool experience I had yesterday with my 12.9" iPP.

I had a research meeting with a couple of other scientists. I brought along my iPP and Apple Pencil.

We were sitting in front of one of the other researcher's computers because she was showing us some new results and we were talking about possible avenues of future research. I had come with a particular idea I wanted to pitch to the two of them.

After looking at her results for a bit I pulled out my iPP and Apple Pencil and laid it on the desk in front of the three of us and used Notability to sketch out my new idea. They loved the idea and naturally joined in. We sat there for about an hour passing the Apple Pencil around sketching up various aspects of the new idea and talking through the math involved. No one even noticed or talked about the fact that we were using an iPP and Apple Pencil... it was just as natural as if we would have been working on a sheet of paper (actually multiple sheets of paper... we generated around 6 pages of drawings, math, graphs, etc.).

At the end of the whole thing they both asked me if I could email out what we had worked up. I did it directly from Notability and they both confirmed they received it immediately... then everyone went their separate ways.

It was all so natural... and smooth. We were so focused on the science that no one even blinked at using this really cool tool to collaborate... it just happened. The large screen is so much like a normal piece of paper that it really changes the way you think about it.

Anyone else finding that the Big Pro is great for collaboration?

Nice and you wasn't even trying to show off the device. The 12.9 pro seems to get a lot of attention around people. I'm a grad student and the large screen in a 4:3 ratio is a sight for sore eyes for some (most say "wow" at first look). I know the small ipad pro lovers will hate me for this, but the large ipad pro did change the experience of using an ipad for me and alot of us. I don't think that change is so significant going down to the smaller verison. Even using the pencil is a amazing experience on a far larger device. The apple pencil is actually too big in my opinion for the smaller pro and needs to be shrunk down some.

Great example of the use of the 12.9" iPad Pro in a real world situation. I keep going back and forth on which one I'll get for myself.
Think of it like this, do you want to use split screen on your device and multitask in a more reasonable manner. When using split screen on the larger ipad pro, its like having two normal sized ipads side by side. This makes doing work so much easier. I have word open and safari open at the same time and I can actually utilize the large screen size. The smaller pro in split screen is not as convenient especially if you are working on large documents or scrolling through one.

Also, if you utilize safari and chrome as often as I do, you would want the larger ipad if you want many tabs open. One friend of mine jailbroke his ipad pro and wanted to see how much ram was actually available and discovered about 3.8 GB of the ram in the larger ipad pro is usable so for those who are concerned about ram, this is the device to get.

What is your main use case? I really think that if it's primarily for taking written notes (especially for school) using the Apple Pencil then you can't go wrong with the bigger one. Feels just like a real piece of paper.

Also, like jamesrick80 said: if you're using it for productivity type purposes you can't beat the extra scree real-estate for multitasking.

If it's going to be very mixed use (consumption, travel, small amount of productivity, some drawing, some writing, etc.) then the smaller one might do.

I guess I should have made the title of this thread a little edgier. Maybe I should have named it "thinking of returning my iPP" or maybe just "dissappointed" or "I liked my Surface better" ;-)

I've been putting off going back for my MBA. It's now or never and I want the ability to use handwritten notes and marking up handouts. The real estate on the 12.9" model would be great, but I love the form factor of the 9.7" iPad. But, happy medium, since this is the year I'm budgeted to replace my 2011 MBP, what I'll do instead is buy the 32GB 9.7" model to replace our iPad 2, then purchase myself the 128GB 12.9" model. Saves money since my MBP is still going strong.
