Be more specific - what video source? What does "cannot watch" mean? If YouTube, then yes, the current app will not play higher res.

Yes, even on Safari I cannot choose to view past 1080p on my iPad Pro nor on my iPhone 11. I am trying to watch these directly on my devices screens, I realize the screens aren’t 4K but it’s still going to look better at 1440p or 4K because the iPad Pro has a a higher resolution than 1920x1080

And as for Netflix / Disney+ — I don’t even have an option for the video quality. Disney+ says that lots of their titles are in 4K so does Disney+ just use the 4K upsample for the iPad Pro? Again, talking about using the screen on the device itself

Thanks MacRumors

It's a mixed bag. As I said, YouTube is currently limited to 1080p in the app and Safari. The Amazon Prime app will only display 720p but through Safari you can get 1080p (max). All restrictions/limitations are on the app side - there are no "built-in" limitations.

I don't know about Disney+ but the Netflix app does stream higher than 1080p to the iPad Pro 12.9. I do think it might have been 1440p.

So basically, we just have to wait (read:hope) that google/YouTube updates the iOS YouTube app? I don’t understand.. I thought 4K video was a big part of iOS 14 for Safari. It works on macOS now 4K videos can be played through Safari on macOS.. I don’t understand.
