Big Problem with Gaming in Bootcamp!!!

hi all i am new to the forum...Anyway i Have a great problem running games on bootcamp...it appears my mac's fans either dont turn on time or they dont turn at all, as a result my mac gets into high temperatures and all the games i try to play after a few minutes on cause my mac to shut down and restart...SO any help would definetely be accepted and appreciated...

I have a mac book pro osx 10.4

Well the thing is i just installed smc fan control, the fans went on fully BUT STILL the computer shuted down and restarted...I dont get at all what in heavens name is happening with my mac...
All the people i have talked to never have told me something like this and it's really becoming a nuissance since i only installed bootcamp for games nothing else, my mac is excellent in all its features..

Ok i tried something else...i let the game play in the menu for about ten minutes with the fans open but still no result it shut down...I used smc fan program adn still i am not sure the fans went on with temperatures at 60 deegres Celcius the speed of the fans where only 4000 rpm....

Are you using MBP Core 2 Duo with Geforce8600M GT? Which version of bootcamp is running on your machine? The restart only happens when gaming?

What I suggest you to do first is to update graphic driver to newest version, dont forget to get the .inf file to get through the autherization issue.

I am using Vista Ultimate with bootcamp 1.4. I am also using SMC FanControl 2.1.2. When setting the minimum fan speed as 3000RPM in Mac OS, windows vista runs ice cool. I tried tons of game on MBP; and experienced several bluescreens when running Supreme Commander. Not sure it is due to overheat or memory overflow.

Ok i have intel core duo with ati 1600xt i think...i use the 1.4 bootcamp and i have installed the latest drives which ati has for bootcamp plus the restart only happens when gaming...It seems as if something is not allowing the fans to go to 5000 rpm for example when i set them through smc 2, i have tried that in os too but still when i set them at 4000 rpm they seem to start and then suddenly they slow down again with no obvious reason...right now i have 56 celcius and 4711rpm in mac and its ok BUT if i have 44 celcius then the fans wont start up when i set them at 4000 and they remain at 3000...I MEAN WTF!!!!

Right. First thing what version of SMC fan control are you using, and make sure it's the latest version.

Secondly you shouldn't need to set it so high, and irrespective it would not effect bootcamp side of things so...



Have you tried doing the following?


1. remove the battery
2. with the battery removed and your mac 'NOT' plugged into AC power, press the power button and hold it down for 10 seconds
3. replace the battery / power cord
4. press the power button again
5. hold down apple + command (alt) + p + r = all at the same time
6. you should hear a gong, and then the machine will reboot again. On the second gong let go of the keys.


We have now reset the PMU and PR-RAM reset.

This may correct any funky heat / fan issues in OS X & boot camp side of things.

You'd only be resetting settings stored in the PRAM or SMC.

Ok is seems to be working this time i managed to play the game for half an hour and after it reached 80 deegres celcius it shut down...all i can say is that it was a start ill put my fans to 500 deegres and try again

All intel macs run incredible HOT, and fans not work correctly...
G5 imacs really work at lower temps......
But when run windows the problem its really big...temerature really go high !!!

Its amazing aple not probvide yet real solution for fan speeds under windows....

Aluminium MAC just run incredible hot, i think the machien can demaged, same for macmini and same for macbook pro 2.4ghz

Instaling SMC fan, and booting form LEOPARD then restart machine is a temporal solution but is painful !!!

Its just really amazing......

It resets the machines parameter settings and starts the slate clean with defaults.

The thing is SMC fan control does not change the fans in Windows so adjusting them in OSX only affects their performance in OSX.

So your exercise is in one of futility tbh in regards to SMC & Bootcamp. If your having that heat issue, then your best bet maybe to re-install windows and your boot camp drivers. If it continues contact Apple because it simply is not normal.
