Big Question For Me-Developers Look To Answer

So I have Mac Tiger, not Leopard, and I'm thinking about going up to Leopard so that I can get the SDK kit to make some apps.


A couple questions,
Is it worth it to upgrade to Leopard,
Should I get the SDK kit if I do,
With the free SDK, can you put apps in the store,
What apps should I try and work on?

Well if you want to develop iPhone applications using the SDK then you have to use Leopard, to submit applications for approval to the app store you have to apply to become a member of Apple's iPhone developer program, which will set you back $99 and approval isn't automatic. You can develop applications with the free SDK but you can only run them within the iPhone simulator and can't put them on your iPhone or anyone elses.

In regards to the apps you should develop that is entirely up to you but please don't add any more hobby style projects to the app store.

Do that first, you get access to all sorts of iPhone material without it costing you a dime. And the first thing I would rec is to download the free iPhone "overview" movies. Around 5 or 6 of them. They show a apple iphone dev person giving an overview or big picture of the iphone os / api.

You can do that first without upgrading to 10.5 too.

HTML, CSS, they are far from Objective-C. If I were you I'd make a trip to my local library and look at a few books on the language. If you think you are up to learning it (it is kind of complex) then move on to the questions of should I upgrade, should I pay Apple the $99 to develop. I didn't pay Apple until I was about 90% done my 1st app, just so I knew I wouldn't be wasting the money.

P.S. Get ready to learn Objective-C... well.

P.S.S. HTML and CSS are not programming languages just markup languages. I'd advise you not to dump them in with Java, etc.

Very little iphone stuff right now. But hopefully more when i complete my current project next month.

i thought about going in and making an app or two, i know basic scripting, php, java, and SOME C but nothing NEAR where i could make an app that anyone would want.. and i wouldnt have the time.. but good luck to ya!!

if you are going to learn C programming, make sure oyu have some time left.

P.S. Leopard is amazing, and definitely worth the upgrade
