Hey Guys,

Just as a primer i AM running the Safari 3.0 beta (its been upgraded if newer versions have come out i dont remember doing it but it has). Anyways, here is my problem:

EDIT: Using 3.03 -- Thanks FJ218700 for making me check. Hope this helps

1. I will go to surf the net --> works fine
2. I will go to different pages --> also works fine
3. As an example (just so u can connect it with something real) i go to
download iNdependence from their google code page. --> starts to
download fine but eventually stops downloading and hangs (different
points each time)
4. After doing this i can no longer visit web pages or download anything.
5. Ive check that i have internet, and i do because my bit torrent continues
downloading

So what gives? why is it that when downloading certain files (its not every file) safari hangs and will no longer visit web pages (when i say hangs i dont mean not operations frozen -- i mean i can type in the address bar and it does nothing). Anyone else having these issues? Im on a Macbook Pro C2D (not SR) 2.33ghz with 2gb of ram.

Daniel

I havent experienced that problem but a while back when i opened safari to get on the internet, it would load a page and then quit suddenly. i would reopen it and it would do the same thing over and over. I don't know what was casuing it. After getting frustrated with this, I used firefox and i didnt have that problem.

Hmm, I have never run into that problem. Bug Report time! I do keep firefox installed on my system (though I loathe it) just for certain downloads and sites since they seem to crash Safari 3 Beta without fail.

This might be a long shot but I had a Dlink wireless router that would do the same thing. I'd be able to surf to the site, then the download would just stop and I couldn't go anywhere else.

If you have two Safari windows open, when one is downloading and it stops, what does the other one do? Is it dead too?

Is there activity on your router are all the lights just on steady or are they flashing?

What do you do to get Safari to respond again? I used to have to pull the plug on the router. But then I replaced the router and have never seen the problem since.

Cheers.

Shouldn't be the router because his 'bittorrent' downloads run normally. Should be a problem with Safari itself...To the OP: Do you have any third party plugins installed ?

I'm using 3.0.3 and there are times when everything goes inactive - I have to close Safari and reopen. No pattern that I have discerned yet.

I've had the unexpected quits as well - a less stable release in my experience.

Firefox is used when Safari keeps hanging up on my MBP - but Firefox is sooooooo slooooooooooooow.
