I've been on iOS 10 (Public Beta) since it came out, and it's great, except for one issue.

It's gotten rid of all my free space.

At the time of installation, I had about 1.3 GB of free storage. I now have "Zero KB" coming up on the display, despite the fact I deleted a number of apps earlier. I feel that the biggest problem is my iCloud Photo Library. I have got "Optimise iPhone Storage" turned on, heck I've only got the 16 GB model, but it's not deleting the local pictures. In iOS 9, you could find a picture, download it, use it, and then leave the app. After a short time, the photo would be deleted from your device, but remain in iCloud. What I'm really looking for is a way to do this, or for someone to give me another great solution.

From what I can tell, the beta is producing loads of unnecessary files, then not deleting them, but I can't really confirm this.

This is typical of any beta. Betas store logs on the device for submitting bug reports. iOS 10 beta, being a new iOS version as a whole will store more logs than say 9.3.3. You can dump these logs with a PC app called PhoneCleaner. Syncing with iTunes sometimes helps as well.

I was also a part of the iOS 9 beta, with no similar problems... hmm, hopefully the next update won't be so problematic...

Its also possible there is corruption in your version of iOS and a clean install is needed. But regardless, I stand by my original post in regards of it using more storage than a non-beta version of iOS for bug reports and diagnostics.

sorta random update: as part of recovering some old files, i had to restore to an old back up, which included doing a full reset, which ended with me having an extra 4GB of storage, which was pretty neat!

I can confirm that I have exactly the same issue. iCloud Photo Library was utterly taking over my storage. I have since reset the iPad and restored all my apps as a fresh install and not put on Photo Library and I now have 4.56gb of space on a 16gb iPad Air 2. Before the wipe, I was at less than 100mb of storage space. What was annoying and why I was forced to do the wipe, was the iPad was giving priority to photo storage over book storage and I was forever finding my books deleted to make room for photos I wasn't even looking at.

So I assume you didn't restore from an iTunes backup? Or an iCloud backup?

No, I totally set it up as a new iPad and didn't activate photo library. Which kind of annoys me.

I'm definitely having the same problem. I think something is preventing it from releasing deleted files back into free space unless the app is completely deleted. I use Overcast as my podcasting app, and after two podcasts finished, I got no space back. I'm stuck at 0kb. I've deleted an app here and there, though, and that gives me a little space back. But I'm at the point where even the feedback app won't work, I think at least in part because there's no space left.

Edit: I just deleted two apps and it had NO effect on the displayed storage space.

Something is definitely buggers. I've had this problem since at least dev beta 2. A lot of apps *seem* to be sucking up storage. Many of my apps show data amounts more then double the app size itself, and a lot of these I don't even use.

More interestingly though is today my phone had 800+ Mb immediately following updating to DB4 and 3 hrs later it was half that. It's pretty much just sat on my desk all afternoon.

I'm having the same problem with Zero KB storage shown and iCloud Photo Library not clearing storage in case there's no space.

I think that has something to do with Memories and face detection features which accumulate photos automatically to create memories and portraits of faces scanned.

Sometimes the storage section in settings doesn't even show photos & camera as an option for me. Hope this is fixed.

It's getting worse. I'm still showing about 400MB of photos on my phone. If I go into the photos app, all but one of my photos and videos are gone. I'm no longer sharing photos with anyone. Resetting the phone gave me back 4MB. It's gone now, obviously. (And possibly unrelated, my phone has developed a high-speed flicker on the springboard.)

A restore fixes the problem temporarily though, you can try that.

Yeah, I'm back at home with iTunes, so I'm going to try a sync first before a restore. But I'll definitely do a restore if I have to.

Edit: Okay, as I suspected, doing a sync of a playlist is good enough. It opened up over 1GB of free space. My photos are even back on my phone.

Edit 2: Ha, it's full again!

Connecting to iTunes helped temporarily. It freed up ~2gb, but it's steadily eating the space away again. I've lost over 400mb just having my phone on. Strange.
