On my M1 MBA, just got my hard drive randomly rejected and I had to repair the error on a Windows machine so that the hard drive is recognizable by the Mac again. Anyone facing this issue too ?

I've had random ejections for years. It doesn't happen when the computer is awake. I invariably discover it just after waking the computer. I've always suspected that it's been a USB problem. For example, my CalDigit hub, which has hosted drives in the past, always seems to be more reliable when I restart it now and again.

My most recent ejections were happening just as the computer was being woken up. I think in those cases it was a timing issue between when the computer expects the disk to be there and the USB actually being ready to show that it's there. For whatever reason the problem stopped.

I've never had data corruption as a result of these ejections.

I see, I didnt really have this issue on my late 2013 Intel Mac, probably some bugs with Big Sur i reckon. I really hope I dont have to use Windows to rectify these issues because it would be disastrous if I am out somewhere without a Windows machine to do hard drive recovery..

And another issue I have, my M1 Mac is not reading one particular hard drive I have after randomly ejecting it as well on a particular USB C port(the 2nd one)

I just got the same issue, on the same hard drive again. Seems like its a Big Sur problem. I have to go back to Windows to do a scan and repair in order for the Mac to recognise the hard drive again. Windows has no problems reading and writing to the drive.

Have you seen the problem with the disk plugged directly into the computer, rather than through a connected hub?
