Using Big Sur 11.5.1 for more than a week now. By the way, none of the symptoms described below appeared in Catalina 10.15.7.

Notes application frequently exhibits the following behavior:

- Application initially minimized
- Application selected and maximized
- Cursor pointed in editable area / left click

Beachball begins to spin for 1-2 seconds and then application begins responding. Outlook for Mac often exhibits the same behavior.

Other applications show a slight delay in reacting but without a beachball.

However, this delay is consistent enough to notice.

Anyone having the same issue?

What HW? Are you using HDD or SSD? Have you looked at activity monitor to check CPU/RAM usage?

Running the latest Intel based 2020 MBPro 13" 2.3 GHz / 16 GB / 1 TB. No unusual CPU usage or memory utilization.

Ok, been through some troubleshooting recently, not like yours though but, do you have any external drives connected? If yes, eject them and see whether the problem persists.
The next step, boot in safe mode and see if the problem exists there.

My recent experience with Apple support was very good on my 4yr old iMac re Big Sur and high Finder CPU usage… I have no AC+ but it’s a new OS, so unless someone else here comes up with better suggestions, give support a chance, just be prepared it might take a few days to debug

No external drives attached. Only a printer via USB port (via Plugable 7-in-1 USB C hub).

I'm starting to notice the same laggy performance mentioned here. I just recently "upgraded" to 11.5.1 (OCLP).

Thanks for sharing. This does not appear to be an isolated issue.

As a side note, this can be easily noticed by even a junior QA engineer.

Yes I am experiencing this as well, a lot of beachballs, especially if I am trying to switch to a different input source. I have since disabled the other input source I use and it improved a bit, but the lag is still there. To me it is appalling that software with this quality is shipped.

Apple: From "it just works" to "it just doesn't work". Sign of the times for Apple...
