I recently upgraded from Catalina to Big Sur. Waited a long time to do that hopefully to avoid any bugs. However, after doing so, all my icons/thumbnails for my Seagate external drives disappeared and reverted to the generic orange drive icons.

I looked for a Big Sur compatible download on the Seagate site that addressed this issue but only found the toolkit and NTFS which I downloaded and installed but no improvement. Anyone know of a way to get the Seagate icons back.

Was not an issue with Catalina but I seem to remember they did require a piece of software that added the correct drive icons.

You don’t need any additional software. I used the method below, which works for external drives too. It talks about using pictures, but icon files should work as well. I know Seagate usually includes an icon of the drive somewhere on the disk, so you could use that if you still have it. That is what I used. Otherwise, you could find an image you like on the web.
