I have it setup so that when I let my computer go idle and the display turns off, I require to enter a password to login. There are multiple users on the computer. We used to be able to select "Switch Users", the new user would login and go into their profile. Now, we're unable to do that.

The only option is to force the current user to login, then logout, and the new user logs in with their password. If my kid is trying to get on the computer, they'll need me to login to my account first before they are able to access their user. Has anyone else had a problem with this? Or know of a workaround? Thanks.

Tried Apple Support, they were of no help.

@_Refurbished_ - what version of Big Sur are you using? I'm on 11.6 (20G165) and I can switch between multiple user accounts via the lock screen.

I'm the latest 11.6 as well. I was chatting with Apple Support and I set my display to sleep after 1 minute to test and it was working again. Fifteen minutes earlier I did the same test and it didn't work. Pretty sure it's just a bug, hopefully I don't see it again.

Well... when I first tested this (BTW Cmd+Control+Q immediately locks your screen) it took quite a while to respond when I selected to switch users (like several minutes ). But I then got the screen with the account logins. Were you waiting this long when it wasn't working?

I have a sneaking suspicion this delay that I saw can be related to the other accounts needing to be optimised after the latest update being installed. I'd not logged in as them since the latest 11.6 update. Now that I have, the switching accounts from the lock screen is much quicker.

That’s a possibility. Maybe I needed to log into all of the other accounts.

Also, locking my screen was working properly if I’m remembering correctly. It was only when my screen would naturally turn off when idle when I experienced the issue.

The switch users icon should should show instantly when it’s working properly. Luckily it has been operating properly since the other day. Cross my fingers for now.
