Make sure WiFi shows connected at the top right of the installer window, or plug in an Ethernet cable.

Not sure why but this seems to be the first macOS to require internet to be connected for installation. My installation of the beta's gave an error if I was not connected as well.

Ok, I've solved it.. Basically, I did 2 things:

1)

- Open System Preferences from Dock or from the Apple Logo menu.
- Click on Network.
- Select your internet connection and click Advanced.
- Select the DNS tab and add 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to the list of DNS servers.
- Select the Proxies tab and make sure that all checkboxes are unticked, except the "Use Passive FTP Mode"(you can leave this on)
- Click OK.
- Restart your Mac

2) I've turned off the firewall on security and privacy.

Don't forget restart you mac after doing all those things.
Cheers!

In my case, I "solved" the problem by simply using an ethernet cable. It's annoying, but it worked, at least for me. This is why I always make sure I have at least one dongle with an ethernet port.
