I have an issue with Music on Big Sur 11.0 Beta (20A5395g).
When I connect my iphone to iMac the old iTunes (12.9.5.5), opens automatically also I get the following message: This iphone is in use by another user on this Mac.
Itunes opens all my music and playlists, if I manually open Music it doesn't display my playlists. I have tried to import the playlists using File>Library>Import Playlist, but nothing happens.
Is there a solution? Thank you.

Did you try importing the iTunes library complete?

You can hold down the option key while opening the “music app” and you should get a dialogue that asks you to “choose a library” then navigate to the iTunes library double click to import and it should Create a new “music library” and import all the playlists, play counts and lyrics

How do I get my iTunes library from my 7th gen iPod Touch to a new MacBook Air on Big Sur?
It's synced from my original iTunes library on a 2012 iMac on Mohave.

I had moved my music into a folder on the desktop, I used your trick and it does say 'I'll open that for you', but it doesn't happen. Do you by chance have something else I might try..?

That does not sound right ? Try This?

1 First Close Music

2 Then hold the alt (option) button + click on Music App to reopen it

3 You should get this Pop Up - use the "Choose Library" . . - to browse to iTunes Library - or desktop or external drive etc.

4 After Clicking "Choose Library" browse to iTunes library and double click to open / import

once you double click on the iTunes Library it should convert the itunes library and create a new Music Library - it might be called Music 2 - if there was another previous version of the music library

hope that helps

Brilliant!

My shiny new MBA M1 with Bug Sur has only 256GB, but simply moving my entire 200GB iTunes folder from my old 1TB MBP to an external drive solved that problem. On a side note, the lower internal storage has forced a good digital spring clean. It's surprising how much rubbish you can collect on a laptop in 10 years. Anyway, with my original iTunes now on the external, I simply held 'Option' while opening Music and selected the .itl file, it then asked me where I wanted the Music library, I told it, done. Took a few seconds, when yesterday I tried importing all the iTunes media, which took hours, only for all the album art, playlists etc to go missing.

I'm assuming I need to leave all the iTunes files where they are, as the new Music Libary file is only a few hundred MB's, so it must be referencing the original iTunes files, unlike iPhoto and iMovie, as once you convert those you can delete the original files and be left with what you see in the screenshots.

Glad you got it figured out - I too have all my music files on an 500g external drive but keep the Music library (DataBase) locally on the MAC in the default location

I am not 100% sure but perhaps keeping the new "Music Library.musiclibrary" database in the default location is better for playlists and artwork - since there is also info stored in the hidden library folders? again FWIW - I have not had any issues with my playlists since the very beginning beta (Knock on Wood)

Another place to check and configure to your personal preferences / set up - is the Music preference location - see screen shot below

Has anyone noticed the spelling/grammar error: 'and names the files based on....' There shouldn't be an 's' on name. Do you think we should submit an official bug report, or wait and see how long Apple themselves take to notice and fix it?
