can you change the blood red look it's an eye sore

Sure. Go to System Settings -> General -> Accent Color

The "colored wheel" on the left lets apps use their own color schemes, the others just default them to one colour. Unfortunately the left side of the panel (Artist icons etc) seems to stay red.
