I installed Big Sur as a Parallels VM. All went well until the reboot. I was not able to logPain. I read several posts not to use specific keys, but that didn't work either.

Any trick to get this to work in Parallels?

The guides I followed said to install Catalina first and create two admin accounts. That way, you have a backup with a valid password. You might need to reinstall from scratch.

Big Sur is very fragile on Parallels. Upgrading to the 2nd beta killed my install. It gets stuck waiting for a generic video card driver to load. Graphics accelleration is non existent for macOS in Parallels, and I ultimately found it an unpleasant experience overall even when it was working. I'd suggest installing it on a spare partition or external SSD to get the most out of it.

the 3rd beta killed my install with the error message now: Parallels Desktop cannot be started because some of the required components are missing from the operating system of your Mac...... not sure what to do

This is due to the fact that the system now reports 11.0.
A work around is a shell script:

SYSTEM_VERSION_COMPAT=1
open /Applications/Parallels\ Desktop.app

I created that shell scripts in Textedit, saved as a .command file. But when I click it, Parallels starts to open, but still errors with the "...components are missing from the operating system of your Mac."

I use the following shell script and run it from the terminal. I have not been able to execute it from with AppleScript or by double clicking. Since they likely will have an update soon I did not want to spend further time on it.
Bash:
#!/bin/bash
SYSTEM_VERSION_COMPAT=1
open /Applications/Parallels\ Desktop.app
You can do a chmod 755 on it and then just execute it from the local directory or /ur/local/bin.

Try this:

export SYSTEM_VERSION_COMPAT=1

open -a "Parallels Desktop"

The App Store version of Parallels is missing a lot of functionality, and will NOT work with VMs created in the Pro version, or with BootCamp...

The workaround still works fine for me, on my Mac Pro as well as my MacBook Pro.

I installed Big Sur public beta as a VM in Parallels 15. booting up and logging in fine, but display is stuck at 1024x768. I tried installing parallels tools but that made it not be able to boot, so I had to re-install Big Sur as a VM. so I am on a clean install but the graphics are poor. Only sees 3mb vram. Any suggestions?

I have exactly this. Getting it installed as a guest was no real problem but without Parallels Tools and being unable to change the resolution from 1024x768, it's horrible.

I don’t know why we have differing experiences. My Parallels 15 installation would not work starting Beta 3, and I am using the work-around script. In Beta 4, Parallels still will not start on its own, but with the script it all works, and I can do everything as usually.

Parallels 16 has been released and mostly works with Big Sur without resorting to the terminal workaround. I am experiencing one problem as my Windows 10 VM does not access the Mac Desktop.

Parallels Tools works now with Parallels 16 but the graphics is still only reporting a 3Mb card and there's no way to change the resolution from 1024x768.
