I have Mac mini 2014 2.6ghz 8gb ram.

I downloaded the public beta couple days ago. It was not installing on my external. So I partitioned the internal spinner 1tb in tow parts. High Sierra on the first as it came with my mini. And BSPB on the other partition. Works great not bad. NO major issues. Then I saw two partitions on my external Lacie thunderbolt. Don't even remember having two partitions. One was 10.15.5 and one was 10.15.6. So I updated the 10.15.5 to 10.15.6. I thought I was installing Big Sur Public Beta but it just upgraded to 10.15.6. Then in software update it showed Big Sur Public Beta again and I installed Big Sur Public Beta. It worked fine and its much faster than my internal spinner. For comparison wanted to see if its any faster and it was.

Then I rebooted into Catalina to go back to my old setup and continue what I was doing before. But then Big Sur Disappeared.

I labeled the internal hard drive "Macintosh HD" and "BSPB" (Big Sur Public Beta). Each a separate partition. And the external is labeled "Thunderbolt" "and Thunderbolt 2". It works in Big Sur just fine. In the link I made above First pic shows when I booted into Catalina. It shows "Macintosh HD" and "Thunderbolt". But no "BSPS" or "Thunderbolt 2". And in disk utilities under Big Sur nothing is showing right now. But in Catalina only "BSPB -Data" show and no "BSPB" drive shows. How odd. Only a blank partition I believe is it. In my link above 6th pic shows just that.

And in my link above the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th pictures show also no "BSPB" or "Thunderbolt 2". How odd. And also there is a windows partition. I don't have any windows installed. Not sure where that came from. I thought Big Sur Public Beta disappeared. Then I realized when I click on "EFI Boot" it boots the internal second partition with Big Sur Public Beta on it. Not sure why its called "EFI Boot" and not "BSPB" as I labeled it.

And the last three pictures show it correctly labeling all the drives in Big Sur and even in startup disk which is not the case in Catalina. 7 and 8th picture shows that.

Hi Ive just had a similar problem.
I waited for a long time for Big Sur to downlod on my slow wifi. It finally installed and gave a quick message about incorrect packages then it dissapeared and said there was no update available. Then it reappeared but now I have to redownload it all again! Does anyone know why this is happening!

I must have been lucky. When I enrolled my MBP to get the public Beta, it showed 'no such verison of macOS exists for your query' or something to that effect, but in that instant it downloaded behind the error. Then it incorrectly tried to claim I had less than 30GB space left on my drive when in fact I had over 80GB. For some reason it was trying to install onto the boot partition vs. the data partition. I force-restarted my Mac and it just started to work.

Wish I had tried that before deleting over 8GB of my music library and some games first, assuming it was actually low on space, but oh well.

In todays world, with the cost of storage so low, I can't fathom why anyone would delete desired items in order to gain storage space for new downloads.

I mistakenly thought the installer had a legit complaint (later found out via Disk Utility rather late that I had no space issue). Also, is there a way to add storage to a MacBook Pro that doesn't involve a USB key sticking out the side or worse, an external SSD dongle attached to the USB-C port? Kinda want to keep my mobility, thank you very much!
