1. Big Sur does not allow interactions on widgets, this results many widgets completely useless, such as calculator, or less functional such as currency widget where i used to enter base currency amount directly in widget.

2. Big Sur does not allow widget to refresh data by itself, macOS decides when to update data, this results inaccurate data in those widgets that used to pull data every min, such as currency widget.

I completely agree. I sincerely hope that Apple makes changes to this but I doubt it. Calculator and currency widgets are greatly missed.

So little chatter about this issue = Apple will not be making a change to widget interactivity. Too bad...

I noticed the Big Sur lacking in functional widgets right away, so downgraded back to Catalina.

Widgets have been a steady march backward in macOS for quite some time now. At first we could lay them out on the full screen in any arrangement that made sense, with the ability to clip out pieces of web pages, then we lost the latter, then we got relegated to the side of the screen, and now they are read-only. Probably the next move will be to remove them completely, though that won't be much of a loss at this point. Even in iOS things moved backwards on the iPad in 14 to ram a one-column phone-based display down our throats. It seems like at Apple the phone group dictates all. If they say "We will only support this", then all other OSes have to follow that.

Even in the iPhone, today/widgets are essentially completely useless. The today screen is often only visited by mistake. Theres no function, no reason to swipe left.

The reason why dashboard/today panel was used was because it was only one move away from functionality, as opposed to clicking various times only to wait to open an app.

Apple really screwed this one up. Functionality is key and thats why people still choose computers for relevant work. Making MacOS less functional like iOs is so stupid.

To this day i despise the fact that Apple removed dashboard from the OS; I used it multiple times a day.

My guess is that almost no one used (or developed for) Dashboard anymore, the widget website on apple.com was a wasteland.
It still sucks for those who were using it.

Yea. It sucks even more for the people who accepted it, switched to *paid* Today panel widgets and got the rug pulled from under them in exactly one year.
