Bigger SSD?

I remember a few people doing this with iPods a few years back, but I have not heard anything about doing it on an iPhone. Would it be possible to replace the 8GB Flash drive with a bigger one manually? I would love to have one of those Samsung 64GB drives in there (even though it would cost alot). Even a 32GB would be fine. Anyone think that it could work?

These are laptop sized drives, as of now 16GB seems to be the max...

Well 16GB would still be better than 8, but by the time I am ready to get an iPhone a 16GB will probably already be out, so it won't really matter then. 32 sure would be nice though.

Didn't Samsung start mass production of a 64GB 1.8" SSD in June? Do you know if/when it is/will be available retail?

Also, just to tempt us... STEC have a 64GB 1.8" SSD currently available, but only OEM to retailers... http://www.stec-inc.com/product/mach8.php

That 256GB drive there is a 3.5'', not a 2.5''. Man if that were a 2.5'' that would make for an awsome MBP. I know that iPods use the 1.8'' drives, but I believe that the iPhone uses a smaller one.

rough figures say at $7.5/GB it's easily over $1900. i think that's just production, as opposed to retail. hmmm. information is out there, but it is limited.

for example, googling E-Disk Altima E2A3 SATA brings up the highest 2.5" SSD in production at the moment, at 416GB. Aims to ship to retailers in Q2 2008.

the 1.6TB version of the tech is nicer, but as ever, the prices are not yet known and likely to be sky high. and it's only in 3.5". meh. is there a thread for this stuff on the forum, i'd love to jump in...
