Boot Camp is the way to go if you plan to get lots of steam games - the Mac App Store games are so ripoff for old games you could end up saving in total if you buy OEM Windows 7 and buy games discounted.

And now, after a careful run through DustinT's BS translator(c)

We haven't started this yet. We're just appeasing you so you don't think we hate Mac users. But, really, you're too small for us to care about. Kind of like Linux. It's cute. But, we're in the big leagues now with Lucasarts and we'll do a Mac port when hell freezes over. Oh, and by 'everything stabilized and happy' we mean 'never'

If I wanted to run games under Windows, I would get a PC. I have Steam and I'm happy with the OS X selection. If they don't come out with an OS X version of SWTOR, no sale.

But then you can't use OS X. I was saying Boot camp is much better solution than gaming on OS X. The games published by Aspyr and Feral are ripoff - it is a fact. If you spend £70 for OEM Windows and save about a tenner for about 10 games, you are already £30 better.

while it might be better for you, that doesn't hold true for everyone. What he was saying (and I concur for myself) is that we will not install Windows via Bootcamp and use it just to play a game... any game... it is NOT a better solution for us no matter what, even if the games were free. I didn't get a Mac to run Windows, and the closest I'll get if I have no choice is a virtual machine, but there is no way Windows will be the main OS booted on my machine for any reason at this current time... maybe it will change in the future depending on what Apple and MS bring us, but at the moment... no, not running Windows.

Ya, I agree with you in principle. I have to admit, I've given in a Bootcamp though. There's just a few things I need to run at full speed in Windows, SWTOR is one of them.

Being stubborn isn't going to help anything. Use the computer for all it's worth. It's worth running everything including windows. A fantastic option and easy to do. It's only 20 seconds to restart into Windows and allows me to run everything I want. It's the elitist attitude towards apple products that give them a bad name. I've been a apple supporter/user since the 80's and have been battling the crappy stigma that both sides (pc and mac) seem to portray. Face it Apple is now the best option for those who want to be able to do all that computers can offer.

They will most likely go the easy EA way and port it using Cider, as with Dragon Age 2 and some other Bioware games.

I'll play it when (if?) it runs natively in OS-X. It's just not that high a priority for me to play operating system musical chairs.

On a side note, Valve has said their games run a bit faster on Windows but Macs enjoy much better stability. From the Ars article..."what's sort of surprising is how much more stable our games are on the Mac." Looking at the early data available from the Steam client, "the Mac is five times more stable than Windows" when using the metric of minutes played versus number of crashes.

Love that.
:D

I'm in the same boat, I don't want to bother with Windows anymore for any reason. If they port it, I'll consider it, but not until then.

Just a little blurb from the internets:

2012 we will attempt to deliver Linux, Mac, and iOS player clients, but the graphical reduction needed to take place to transition from a DirectX to an OpenGL renderer may not be something we can overcome. These are NOT editor clients, these are just player clients. We will not be distributing a Mac based editor.

From the Answers to All Your Questions post on the HeroEngine forums. Really doesn't sound like they're confident in their ability to port.

I believe a wine wrapper is by far the best option right now. Not a big sacrifice at performance, and no windows boot. Plus, it looks able to run any windows game - the community of these projects is doing a really great job. That's my idea of keeping the best of both worlds. For me booting windows on the Mac is not an option, and a virtual machine is not an option for gaming.

And in case I'm misunderstood, I'm not talking about pirate games. You can just download premade wrappers and use them to run your legaly acquired game.

sounds more like they are clueless with OpenGL.

Its DirectX 9.. they should be able to do everything they need to do there in OpenGL 2.1

eventually.. right now Wine has a major issue with networking in SWTOR and is not an option. It did work during earlier beta, but they made changes that broke it.

Yep, which is why I'm not getting SWTOR unless they come out with an OS X version.

Like most people, i wanted this game on OSX but it wasn't happening.

I didn't want to suffer through bootcamp so I went out and bought a Sony Vaio F series laptop to play this game.

It's worth it, the Vaio is no mac, but it plays the game well and plus I have access to my Mac while playing.

I hope this Mac version comes sooner rather than later or never.
