Ok everything is perfect except a white back light bleeding in a form of a line.. from above 3-4 inches from the bottom of the screen. Its only visible in solid black background. Anyone else have this issue?

This is not normal, return it for another immediately. If you want to give it a fair chance first, leave it on with a screensaver over night and see if it is still there.

Its barely visible and pretty small only in solid black where I have to look for it, no problem for me.

But under normal usage wow this screen really pops and is really nice!

I reinstalled leopard onto the mba and wow the fan is barely audible and I've watched some youtube videos for 30 minutes and watched a few hd trailers and no fan noise!! Maybe the smc firmware update did something?? Or I just got lucky??

This mba will serve me well until rev. b is due out =D

see where on the top right you can see a little white line + the line on the bottom.. its only when its fully black but I kind of dont want to exchange it because the fan noise is so quiet and when in normal usage I dont even notice anything even when viewing a black background page... only when viewing movies I can see those 2 white line when its fully black in the beginning of a movie...

Also the bottom doesnt look that bright with the line just that in that angle it looks whiter but its not as bad in real life... and there are no other problems, fan is quiet, screen in regular usage actually looks gorgeous, trackpad clicks perfectly, no warped lid, no wobbly bottom..

I think the MBA will serve you until you find another reason to return it. :) I'll give you a week, give or take a few days, but definitely before the 14 day return policy is up. :D

The "slight white line" might not bother you now, but I think your obsessive nature will quickly get the best of you. I'm noticing a high frequency of posts from you about the same thing, and it just seems like you're fishing for positive comments to fulfill your unattainable wish - that is, finding an MBA that is perfect or is within your strictly defined standards. Eventually, you will be driven to the point where you want to return it again. Since this is a revision A product, the odds of this are even higher, not to mention the higher volume of problem-related vs. positive posts in this sub forum which will spur further negative thoughts in your mind. And this whole mentality shift will happen at an exponential rate over the next week or so. Just my brief psychoanalysis. :)

But really I do wish you the best with your new machine and that everything does work out. Just don't settle for anything less, especially considering that you forked over $3K for it. I know it's a beautiful laptop, but try to step out of the reality distortion field if possible. It's hard, I know.

Lol, yes it is very hard!! Well I only got the 1.6/80gb model so paid the $1799. But so far I'm enjoying the hell out of the mba! Much much better experience than what I had 2 months ago with the loud ass fan but this time the fan barely comes on even watching you tube, 720p hd trailers, 10+ safari pages, and microsoft word running.

99% of the time I dont notice those imperfections but to me for now I dont want to risk returning this machine and get one that has a messed up trackpad click (like the mba I had before), gets really hot (it runs cooler compared to it before, no need for an ilap!), fan noise at its loudest isnt that loud anymore.

Also the screen in general is much more vivid and clearer than what I remembered (never bothered to check what type lcd panel I had before but its a 9c7c and its really vivid) just scared I'll get an inferior screen or other problems.

As one last thing to note.. man I absolutely love this mba, now my mac pro is getting neglected.

If some other issue arrises in the next week then I would return for those reasons.

This is the screen (chimei) that I saw in the store that I thought was much better (as in evenly illuminated, no grain,) than the more common one - but that line is just not acceptable! I'd definitely get it replaced and take a chance. You're not going to be happy trying to convince yourself that 'it's okay, I can only see it when...."

The good side of the grass.
Thats a tough call. I have a small backlight bleed on bottom of mine & nearly took it back at first. Only notice when black screen, kind of like yours. Really annoyed at beginning but until reading your post, haven't thought about it much since. That's been the only problem with mine except I travel and dented it twice:rolleyes:

Give it 12 more days in real world use and see how you feel then.

I think backlight bleed is kind of unavoidable, but the white line is an obvious anomaly/defect. I suppose if it's only visible on black it's not such a huge deal, but is that the standard we've established for Apple now?

Unfortunately... It's not just Apple products but near everything.

It seems to bother you somewhat more than you're letting on.

Take it back is my vote then.

If you have to ask people whether you should take it back, then it is definitely bothering you, perhaps even only slightly.

My first iMac 20" Aluminum had a tiny dead pixel in the center within a few days of owning it (may have been there from day one but I only noticed it after a few days). I found my eyes being drawn to it automatically.

When three more dead pixels popped up, I decided to take it back even though I was one week beyond the 14-day window. I assumed they would fix it since it had been three weeks. They swapped it for a new one, no questions asked.

My only hesitation in not taking it back at first was knowing that the machine was otherwise perfect and replacing it would possibly give me a machine with other flaws.

If it was a used $500 junker I'd deal. But for $1800? I'd get a new one.

If you take it back and get another one where the fans aren't loud maybe that means the newer MBA's have really sorted that out. Let us know.

Ok, I love everything about my mba but like you guys said that since I did mention it, it will bother me and might as well take it back and get it exchanged when I have the chance, so I'm off to the applestore for an exchange.

As for the fan noise I'll let you guys know if the new one's fan noise is bad or not.

Looking forward to the report on the next one. You are one of our most discriminating QA testers. I think you should get paid by Apple as a phantom shopper... ;)

Funny story, I walked in showed the genius my mba and he clearly saw the problem and showed it to the manager which he clearly saw as well and I walked out with a 15" mbp 2.5Ghz model...

I loved that mba.. but I really do love the mbp.. I'll wait until rev. b...

Wow...I've been following your story and seen your other posts and find your final decision confusing. Can you explain your reasoning behind this?

I had some problems with my mba and I went to the apple store to get an exchange, the manager clearly saw the white line problems on the mba and he gave the ok for an exchange but I walked out with a 15" mbp 2.5Ghz model and couldnt be happier!

17" was too big especially the resolution (for me though so its subjective) and I'm a young guy but I tend to squint alot and the mba was an awesome machine but the fan noise once in a while annoyed me + while I waited for the genius I saw 3 other people happily using their mb and I thought to myself man the mba is pretty expensive.. so I walked out with a 15"!

Just put in my hitachi travelstar 7k200 in the mbp 15" and couldnt be happier, I finally feel "good" about my purchase.

Dont get me wrong the mba was very very nice no real issues except that white line deal, the fan rarely got up high only when watching multiple youtube videos but I just cant stay away from the mbp line + just a bit more expensive and 15" is the perfect size for me. Also the 6 hour charging to 100% kinda bothered me last night as well on the mba.

Still looking forward to a Rev B MBA...

You are so funny man. I haven't met someone as fickle as you in terms of decision making! Check this out - I couldn't help but notice a pattern in your recent posts:

Your ACD Obsession

4/11 - You begin considering the 30" ACD.

Post: "How well does a 17" penryn mbp drive a 30" ACD??"

4/14 - You change your mind and decide to go with the 23" ACD.

Post: "Changed my mind about buying the 30" and decided to use "spaces" on the 23"ACD!!"

4/15 - Wait, no, you're still thinking about getting the 30" ACD.

Post: "Question, is your 30" ACD all perfectly lit even or one side is bit brighter?"

4/20 - Okay, so it appears you bought a 23" ACD between 4/15 and 4/20, but you are still considering getting the 30" ACD.

Post: "Should I buy another 23" ACD to make it 2x23" or sell the 23" ACD and get 1x30"ACD"

4/21 - Ah, so now you're definitely leaning towards the 30" ACD. Expecting you to buy the 30" but later posting something like should I have gotten dual 23" ACDs instead?

Post: "Thinking about the 30" ACD anyone here love theirs??"

Your MBA Obsession

4/18 - Apparently you bought and returned your first MBA before this time, but are considering getting another one.

Post: "I'm thinking about giving the MBA a second chance..."

4/19 - Strangely enough, you all of a sudden decide to get a MB because the MBA is too underpowered.

Post: "Aching for a new macbook..."

4/20 - Okay, it seems like you're pretty certain that the Rev A MBA is not a good choice until Rev B or Aluminum MBs come around.

Post: "I think by now people looking into buying a mba should hold off until June..."

4/20 - Wait, no, you're still considering the MBA!

Post: "Any of you guys in here own a mba with the ssd drive??"

4/21 - Yup, still thinking about it!

Post: "Im starting to think that the MBA SSD owners have no complaints"

4/21 - Trying to give yourself more reason to buy the MBA.

Post: "SSD option for the air is now $899 as to it was being $999"

4/21 - Yup, you seem pretty set on getting another one!

Post: "Does the apple stores carry 1.6/64 SSD models??"

4/21 - Yup! Really sure now!

Post: "Just found the coolest thing you can do with the mba if you own a mac pro!!"

4/22 - Yeah!! Done deal! Wait, no... you end up returning it yet again and get an MBP this time.

Post: "Bit and bought a mba again everything perfect except slight white line"

4/22 - MBP has problems. And the obsessions continue...

Post: "The 15" mbp stock hdd have the breathing holes covered up"

I think your post on 4/9 can sum everything up:

Post: "Could anyone help me in making a decision??" :D

I can't believe you're still sane!
