Mac newbie here. Please recommend a bittorrent client and media player for M1 MacBook Air (macOS 11.3.1). µTorrent doesn’t support Big Sur and QuickTime Player doesn’t display .srt subtitles.
Thank you so much!

IINA for the media player, though you might have to dig through the site a bit to find the Apple Silicon version. Best way to get it and stay up to date is to get it though Homebrew, but definitely not necessary. There is a buggy version of Transmission for AS, baring that the Intel version works just fine. If you want to use the cli to get your torrents, you can use rtorrent. the best way to get that is with Homebrew as well.

There is a "Free Download Manager" that is a capable torrent client as well as downloader for Mac with support for YouTube videos as well.

Strictly torrent? Look no further than qBittorrent. Rock solid, ad-free.

Media player? VLC, IINA. IINA is excellent, VLC is no slouch either. It is a matter of personal preference. All free.

If you want to pay for some reason, Folx download manager for all downloads including YouTube and torrent, and Infuse 7 on Mac and other Apple devices for media-playing requirements.

Transmission works fine for BitTorrent. It's not M1 native, but that really doesn't make any difference in its performance.

Long term bump - I have been using Transmission on my cMP but had an issue with IPV6 which for some reason one of my trackers was having an issue with ..... I tried disabling it to IPV4 which the web confirms I have done ok but still an issue with this site I use. I then installed qBittorrent and it works like a dream for that tracker's torrent files.

What I am asking is besides my familiarity with Transmission is there any reason to be running that AND qBittorrent or should I just dump Transmission and move all my torrents to qBittorrent ?
