I was surprised to discover a relatively new name had 39 duplicates on my iPhone. I laboriously opened and deleted down to one, then a week later noticed there were dozens of the same card again. I started the manual deletion again and after deleting several dozen thought I'd check how many I had to go. There were now more than when I started deleting.

This lead me to decide the issue was iCloud, not my phone. So I de-linked the iPhone (and had it delete iCloud contacts, which removed all the cards in question) went on iCloud, deleted all, a few dozen, then made a new one. The screen almost immediately auto-refreshed and there were now 2 again.

I deleted both. They appeared again. Then there were six, then... I've determined that no amount of deleting them helps, first two new ones appear, then more and more, although what prompts more/when is as mysterious as why they come back after being deleted.

No contacts lists are linked at this point, so not coming from another source. There is one unusual thing about the card, the first name is Hon-Ming, so my only card with a - in a first name. Any clues?

That's weird. It shouldn't matter with a dash.
I went through today, and slowly deleted hundreds of old contacts that I didn't need any more, and it worked flawlessly. It works - until it doesn't.

I can edit the first name on the cards, save, and if those are deleted they stay deleted; unfortunately, though, new Hon-Min cards pop up as soon as the previous ones have been renamed, just like if they are deleted. And yes, I see no reason the - would be meaningful, but it's the one thing about the card(s) that's unusual, other than the behavior.

I've made several cards since I created it and none do the replicating thing. Plus, as mentioned, I can change the name and it creates a card that can be deleted and stays deleted, only problem is that prompts new Hon-Ming cards to appear.
