I have a Smart Playlist I use as background listening: my favourites, recent additions to my library, some extra tracks and some exclusions. It has about 12000 tracks in it.

Since earlier this week, when I put it on Shuffle, it will play a first song, start a second, which it will stop about about a minute in.

The odd thing is, it does this if I play the playlist on my iPhone, my iPad, my AppleTV or direct through my HomePods. But it's a different second track every time, so it's not a fault with a particular song. It has to be a quirk with Apple Music, something it now doesn't like about my playlist, which has been working fine for years. Other playlists are fine.

Has anyone any ideas or seen anything like this before?

I guess I’d try creating a new playlist with the same rules to see if it makes any difference.

You could also try limiting it to a certain number of songs.

Otherwise, I’m stumped.

Good idea @pup and creating a brand new playlist with identical criteria seems to have proven the perfect workaround - the new playlist is working fine, while the original is still exhibiting the same behaviour. Guess it's just one of those very weird quirks that we love so much about Apple products...
