OK, I know there's loads of threads out there, but I've *just* bought an 8gig iPhone and unlocked it (Vodafone UK sim) using these instructions. I'm linking them as they're the simplest and most comprehensive I've found so far.

http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=28612&page=1

Following them to the letter resulted in a fully unlocked iPhone running 1.1.2.

Please be aware that:

1. These are not my instructions. I can't help with them

2. They worked for me, they may or may not work for you and your particular model of phone.

Thats great, thanks. Does anyone know if you are able to do this from the new version of iTunes?

If by that you mean iTunes 7.6, you will need the beta version of iNdependence. I jailbreaked and activated my 1.1.2 ootb iPhone using the same method I just haven't unlocked it.

in the hackingtosh guide (link posted above) is the download link for iNdependence the beta version or not? if not do you happen to have a link to it?

cheers,
