Hello there!
I am hoping to buy the updated black classic buckle in my local Apple Store, but based on box art I have seen I am not sure if I will be able to tell the difference between the "old" and updated versions. Is there any difference on the box between the two? I'd quite like to be sure I am getting the new one as I prefer it!

Thanks!

I would just match the part number on the website with the part number on the box. I'm sure the previous generation of the classic buckle had a different part number.

Also, I'm looking to purchase the classic buckle in store too (to take advantage of that 10% cash back with Discover when using Apple Pay). However, the classic buckles are the only ones that don't offer in-store pickup. I'm wondering if they even sell the classic buckle in store. Has anyone been able to purchase the new saddle brown/black classic buckles in-store?

It's really easy to tell them apart - the new ones have a different color on the backside.

Just buy it, try opening it at the Store, and if it's the old one, just return it!

That's a good idea, shame there is no obvious difference in the picture but I will look into the number! Thanks!

After just receiving my new saddle brown classic buckle in the mail, I can tell you the new packaging is about half the thickness of the old packaging because these new ones do not come with a polycarbonate case like all of the premium bands did when the watch came out. This is a little disappointing but should help you find the new one. The box is basically the same thickness as the sport band box

Interesting find. Thanks for sharing. It's disappointing that the Classic Buckle doesn't come in a polycarbonate case. I just bought the Milanese Loop, and I was impressed at the packaging. You're paying $150 for the same presentation as a Sport Band, but I guess that doesn't matter to everyone.

I just came from the Apple Store in Grand Central, NYC. They don't have any Classic Buckles in either black or saddle brown. Looks like I will be buying it from Apple's website. I was trying to buy it in store to take advantage of the 10% cash back that Discover is offering if you use Apple Pay. Oh well.

Can't you still use Apple Pay when purchasing via the Apple Store app on iOS?

The Discover Cashback only applies to in-store purchases. And as of right now, you can't use a Discover card when using Apple Pay for In-App Payments.
