I am curious. Has anyone on here purchased from the online apple store on black friday? I am getting a new imac for Xmas, and i figured that since black friday generally equals discounts, i might as well try it out.

I was just curious.. who here has purchased from apple online on black friday? what time does it technically start? 12:01 am? 1:00 am? or 9:00am when the store technically opens?

I also am curious if you think the discount will be able to be combined with a student discount or will the student discount be more likely a better discount than the black friday one.

Black Friday sales start from the moment the store opens and till it closes (my local store is having an extended trading hour period on Friday).

Not sure about student discount, would be good too but I can't see it happening.

stores open at 6am.

And I'm not sure when the online store will be open.

But, I'll tell you, I've been thinking of also getting my new iMac on black friday, but seeing how more than normal number of people have been having DOA with that computer, I figured that since so many people will be buying Macs on black friday, the chances of getting a DOA one are much bigger.

I don't know, maybe it's just me.

Anyway, good luck :)

No. Short of a first time ever ridiculous Black Friday sale, the sale prices are not combinable, and usually along the lines of what you would get with the education discount. Last several years, the biggest discount on iMacs have been $101 off. With the edu discount, you normally get $100 off.

I bought a 27" Core i5 iMac off Amazon for $1972, Amazon Prime 2-day shipping, no sales tax, no recycle fee. From Apple, assuming I wait for the likely $101 off on Black Friday - $1898 + $16 Recycling Fee + 9.75% Sales Tax = $2100.

mtnDewFTW - actually statistics argue otherwise.. its silly to say "i'm not buying my computer on black friday because the chances of geting a DOA one is higher" And you want to know why?? Think about this

Say apple is producing about 2% DOA computers a day.. and typically 10 people buy an imac on any given day. That means that your chance of getting a DOA imac is 2%.. Now think about black friday. say 10,000 people purchase an imac.. your chance of getting one is STILL 2%

anyways... who cares.

Oh.. and i'm not going into a store - i'm not going anywhere NEAR a store on black friday. its crazy to me. So i really just need to know if ONLINE store starts their sale at midnigh or at 6am when the stores open.

So if it's likely that the discounts will not be anything more than the student discount, i might as well buy now because the sooner i buy, the sooner it comes!!!!

We are getting the top model 27" imac WOOHOO!! That will be # 5 in our house... but this will by far be the beast of the house. I am still waiting to get my powermac.. but i can wait.

ok.. so in total with the imac that i want (complete with upgrades) i get about $200 off with the student discounts.. thats $100 for the imac and $100 for the apple care, RAM, grapphics card, etc.

So i looked at last year's black friday guide, but i didnt see any discounts on apple care or anything. Do they not do this??

Absolutely not.

There is no sale good enough to get me out of bed at 3 AM on my day off after a wonderful day with my family, just so I can stand in the freezing cold weather and compete with people deemed "too ignorant" to go on Jerry Springer.

I make a point of spending every Black Friday in my lounge clothes and slippers, drinking hot chocolate. I don't leave the house if at all possible. If it can't be purchased with a mouse click, I ain't buying it.

Well, our local Apple store isn't opening until 9:00 a.m. so I'm thinking I'll give it a shot. I live around 6 blocks away so if it's a madhouse I'll just buy a danish at the local bakery and head back home.

Planning on getting the i5 plus a 1T hard drive, some software, and a firewire 400 to 800 cable. I was going to get a printer for the $100 rebate (may still) but they don't carry the one I really want at that location.

Going from a 15" G4 PBook so this should be quite a revelation! It's my 25th wedding anniversary present from my husband (yes, I know how lucky I am). On our 20th, I got the PBook which sort of set a precedence.

I ain't gonna buy shizzle this BF from apple, all their first-gen products are so plagued by defects!!!

I'm gonna say the Apple Store crowd ≠ the Wal-Mart crowd.

Was in line the morning (4:30-ish) of the iPhone 3G launch (like an omen, my old cell phone died two days earlier. At the time, I needed a new cell phone asap). Nothing "Jerry Springer" about the crowd at all. It was an interesting group of people and pretty fun.

I can't believe how stupid and uneducated comment that was.
no offence.

lol nice comment. you basically called him stupid. then said no offense.

thats like saying hey stupid, no offense, come over here.

no offense really shouldnt be used with a direct insult.

Hey, I had a hard time waiting until after Thanksgiving to buy it! Typically, patience is not my strong suit – especially with gadgets. It was all I could do to wait until Friday. The one thing stopping me was the thought of not being able to spend 24/7 playing with it as the first priority is now getting Thanksgiving dinner on the table. Aside from computers, my second love is cooking and this is my all time favorite meal so it requires attention. I wouldn't have been able to concentrate enough on either activity!

But if it turns out that over this weekend there are no i5s to be found in the area, I may just be forced to take the online store route.

Hahaha! I know what you mean. I usually look forward to barbecuing a turkey on Thanksgiving but my wife and I are empty-nesting this year so we'll use the extra time to go online and see what the sales are on stuff we need then just go out for dinner. Of course, I'll be shopping for my new i5...;)

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Haven't seen this question asked yet. Both of the Apple Stores in my area are in malls. Say the store opens at 6am like the regular ones, does anyone know if and how you "camp out" in this situation. Right now, I haven't decided to do so, I might just show up sometime during the day and if they have it they have. However, if I decide to show up early, do you "camp out" outside the store in the mall or outside the mall?

Thanks,

I'd first check online on the Apple retail store location site to see what time your store is actually opening tomorrow. The specific store page will have a button to show Holiday hours (including BF).

Some malls do open their doors way before the stores do to let in "mall-walkers". You could call the mall and see what their policy is. Or you could just call your Apple store and ask them what to do.

the one here in Chandler AZ is also inside a mall. Last year I went there after 10 am and the store had quite a number of people, but they still had "every product you see here" as an employee told me.

Ok.. again, for those that are saying that I am crazy for wanting to go anywhere on black friday - I ASKED ABOUT THE ONLINE STORE!!!!!

i think waiting in line from midnight to HOPEFULLY get a great deal on whatever stupid electronic thing you want when you know that they only have 10 in stock is CRAZY.. especially since they have the exact same deals online and your chances of getting the item is the same.

Anyways.. i still havent figured out if the apple store is doing it at midnight or when the store opens.

A lot of the online stores have their sales going on now (best buy, circuit city, walmart) but nothing on the apple store yet.

ok, the online store last year came up between 2-4 am pacific time, I remember because my gf bought an imac online.
and no, you can't use additional discounts as far as I know.

what about with addons?

Like with the student discount, i get a discount on the upgraded RAM, graphics card, etc.

It seems like we might as well just get a good nights sleep and use the student discount. Its all good

a quick question.. a little off topic

Anyone know of any good deals on portable hard drives??
