[Black Friday] Which iPad for me?

Hey, i may consider buying an iPad for light usage (web browsing, watching movies, youtube)
Main usage it watching movies through streaming from my NAS (Synology), iPad has to decode/transcode H265 (1080p)
Which one would suit to my usage?

Price is in eur

iPad Pro 11 (~700€)

+ most powerful iPad ever
+ quite beautiful
+ FaceID, gestures

- expensive!
- too much overkill for my usage
- aspect ratio isnt truely in 4:3, i am really worried about it

iPad 10.5 (~500€)

+ quite powerfull
+ 4:3
+ thin (enough)
+ price is reasonable

iPad 2018 (~260€)

+ most affordable iPad i have ever seen on the market
+ 4:3
+ little bit smaller than Pro although its minimal as gap

- non laminated screen display
- Too much reflective
- processor is a bit outdated?

Too sum up, i am very torn between these iPad, i think 10.5 should be the best compromise but iPad Pro 11 is sexy as hell and iPad 2018 is damn affordable

Have you gone and used them in person? For your usage, it would make most sense financially to go for the 2018 iPad, more than powerful enough for your usage and the a10 is a great and future proof processor. If you get the space grey model, you really don’t notice the non laminated display unless you’re looking for it, the pixel density is the same across the board as well so just as crisp

I was in the dilemma a few weeks ago with the 10.5 vs the 6th gen, but then they had a huge sale on the 6th gen and it was impossible to say no to the deal, literally,over double the price and my usage is the same as yours so it made no sense to go for the pro at a $700 difference (Canadian)

I would try them both out if you haven’t, ever since it’s release, the 6th gen is the #1 recommended tablet out there, 9/10 sites recommend it over the pro because it didn’t offer enough benefits to justify the cost. I pulled the trigger on the 6th gen and it’s been awesome, super fast and awesome battery life .

Sure I would have loved the 10.5, but really the only benefit I would enjoy is the speakers, the rest for my usage would be mute. And the speakers are more than nice enough on the 6th gen, still stereo speakers

Yes i had 10.5 and Mini 4, 6 months earlier

I sold them both for different reasons:

- - 10.5 was almost perfect, i sold it because i was tempted to try again Mini 4

- Mini 4 specs are outdated, it cannot run smoothly H265, in fact whole experience has been degraded by iOS 11

I realized 10.5 was a tad bigger than expected, i am looking for something in between, iPad 2018 is a bit smaller
Both iPad are extremly good especially 10.5 but for these reasons, i couldn't keep them (and 10.5 has a certain cost despite of its quality)

Do reflections bother you?

I ve watched some comparison review, reflection are quite obvious on 2018

I’m a huge fan of the IPP, but for your uses, it seems like you could save money and just get the regular iPad. It doesn’t sound like you would use iPP or Pencil or spend a ton of time working on it and need extra screen size.

Definitely the regular iPad for you. You’ll save a ton of $$ and it will do everything you need.

I personally have no issue with reflections, the screen gets bright enough in most scenarios to overpower that. If it honestly does bother you though, there are plenty of options for matte screen protectors with great reviews. And if you do plan for a screen protector that wasn’t a matte one and installed it on a pro you would have the same amount of reflectance anyways

I put on a Sparin screen protector the day I brought it home, same amount of reflection as before hand and no issues for me. Ordered myself a nice backlit Bluetooth keyboard to go with it as well and I use it everyday, barley touch my phone now

Take some time and do some research for other tablets as well.

I own both the 2018 iPad Pro and 2018 iPad and the base iPad is more than enough for you; without breaking a sweat. A friend of mine is a developer/designer for competitor tablets so take a look at those as well; lots of great inexpensive options out there.

Ok thanks you, any anti-glare tempered glare suggestion?
Its dealbreaker to me because anti-glare means roughness and grainy as feeling
