I am thinking about getting a black HTC One and was wondering how durable it is. Is it showing scratches, etc?

I've seen reports that it can suffer same as the iPhone 5S especially if you are in contact with / vicinity of sand or grit on a regular basis.

I haven't actually seen one in the wild yet though.

I have heard that as well. That is why I'm hoping to hear from actual owners to see how true that is.

I have a black HTC One. Have had it for almost a month now. I keep it in a slim/minimal case and have no defects yet on any of the exposed parts. I also had a black iPhone 5 and I'd say they're comparable as far as finish.

Scruffs like any metal bodied phone. However, I remember reports on XDA about poor paint finish.

I haven't had any issues with mine. I did notice a TINY scuff on the back but it may have been there when I bought it.

I don't use a case now and I don't plan on it in the future. I guess I'll see how it wears.

it will scratch like any anodized aluminum...
Not true.

There's no such thing as "any anodized aluminum".

Their are quality grades that make a big difference in durability.

I have Silver since I bought it upon release. My brother waited and got Black. So far it's proving significantly more scratch resistant than his Black iPhone 5.

umm... you do realize the silver anodized finish is the aluminum's natural color correct? Black die is added for the black finish.

you can scratch through both the silver or the black ano, however the aluminum shows through on the black.

and there is no such thing on "grades" of anodizing. There is differential layer thickness.

I upgraded to an black HTC One at the end of May. I do have my phone in a Otterbox Commuter case and the exposed areas of the phone not completely covered by the case around the power button, camera and noise cancelling mic show no signs of wear. The headphone and micro USB jacks are also blemish free from daily use. So the durability of this phone seems to be very good from my experience.
