Hi,

I have an old ipad pro 12.9 1st gen (2015). While it's still working perfectly, there is one thing it's PRETTY bad at : black levels.

I watch a lot of movies and series and in darker scenes, it's just a grey mess. I don't see anything at all. Yesterday I was trying to watch an horror movie and I had to stop since I had no idea what was happening and the whole movie was during night.

Now I know, the BEST device would be the ipad pro 12.9 with the XDR screen but it's too pricey for my needs. Also, I realize 12.9 inches is big and heavy (that's what she said)

Anyone here watches a lot of movies on their ipad pro 11 or ipad air 5th gen? How does it look in darker scenes?

The only difference I see in the specs between my old ipad and these new ones is it switched from "retina display" to "liquid retina display". Unfortunately I can really test in stores with all the ceiling lights.

Any first hand experience?

Honestly, I think liquid retina just means rounded corners. I find the Pro 11 and Air 4 blacks pretty grayish and contrast is not as good as the 12.9 XDR. I expect the Air 5 would probably be the same.

If that's your primary concern, you might want to wait until the 11" gets a better display or consider OLED Android options.
