I wish Apple would release something like this for the Mac Pro.

The Mac Pro is huge. I wouldn't want that on top of my desk, I'd rather have it stashed on the floor somewhere. I don't care what it looks like or what color it is.

Actually, I would like it to be a bit larger. That way, we could fit more drives in the thing, especially since most servers/workstations have the ability to install 8 or more HDD's.

What can I say, external RAID enclosures and associated cables are expensive. :p

There was a company about a year ago that was going to start doing just this thing. They were going to take some Mac items, and color them. The Pro, the Mini, the new aluminum keyboards. It was going to be kind of nice, because they weren't painted, but hard anodized. Which would lead to a much more durable finish.

But, sadly, it seems like they are no longer in business. Their site is basically gone. But, oh well. Here is a pic I got showing what they were attempting.

wow. just wow. those are some very...colorful mac pros...

Those are Power Macs - notice the single drive opening and the Panther wallpaper. The new keyboard is there though.

I do think the Mac Pro is a bit too oversized... or is that a job for the oh-so-wanted Mini-Tower?

The Mac Pro needs a new tapered/rounded design... it looks and feels too monolithic. I have to admit though that it's great that Apple is avoiding the Taiwanese school of designing tacky and garish PC towers aimed at the (supposedly tasteless) gaming crowd.

One thing you're all forgetting: the all-aluminum design is Apple's way of dichotomizing their Pro and Consumer machines (There are inconsistencies, of course). Apple will definitely not make a black Mac Pro. After the iMac G3, it's the aftermarket people that cater to Mac users' color-related needs.

That picture does show old Power Macs. But, this company was selling colored Mac Pros. They obviously just used an older pic when doing their press materials. I mean, besides the disc drive bays, and maybe some different ports on the front panel, its the same case.

This was a little over a year ago that this company started doing this, so it was certainly Mac Pros that would have been sold (thus the new keyboard in the pic), but not yet when Leopard was released (thus the older wallpaper).

I agree too. If there is the option of the Black color, it will sell as much as the aluminum one.:apple:

So you're saying the sales of MacPros will double just because they've introduced new colours?

Hello people? These are professional machines. Most professionals are not hugely bothered about what colour the box under their desk is.

Well said. People buying Mac Pros, myself included, aren't factoring available colors into their buying decision.

Apple should give us more video card options. Now THAT would get me excited. I'd buy a purple polka-dot Mac Pro if it had better hardware.

And lower the price. It's pretty up there. I can't see myself buying a Mac tower any time soon. It's because of high prices that I tend to root for things like Psystar and the OSx86 project.

I realize that the Mac Pro is a "professional" computer meant for the media industry, but even asking them to pay a full 100-150% premium is a bit much.

Go configure a similar speck Dell and come back here. There's not much of a difference, I fond that the Mac Pro is cheaper in many places.
