When screen sharing my Mac mini, the Menu (left) side of the Menu Bar is black, when I click on the menu it turns white and visible, but only while I'm hovering over that menu.

see the screenshot attached...

Both machines are running the latest version of Yosemite, recent updates did not fix the issue. anyone else come across this?

Are you running your Mini headless (without a display attached)?

OS X does not load graphics drivers and draws all the windows in software unless it detects a display attached. It is actually nice for servers because it frees up memory that would otherwise be wasted on a frame buffer for the Intergrated Graphics. The downside is that, without hardware acceleration, the UI looks and performs about as bad as Windows Vista pre Service Pack 1.

There are lots of glitches and drawing errors. When I remote into our headless server at work for instance, instead of rounded window corners I regularly get square notches cut out of the corners of every window. Sometimes I have to 'wiggle' a window to get the content inside to refresh.

It has been like this since 10.8. Every OS release seems to get better, but it still needs a lot of help. Look at it as encouragement to learn terminal commands and just login via SSH...

...but seriously, Apple has needed to fix this for a long time.

Yes its headless. To my knowledge there isn't a CLI version of Plex Media Server available for Mac, and I prefer a GUI, I can also check out Activity Monitor at a glance if I need to. I too get the square block corners every now and then, I wonder if Plugging a HDMI cable into the mini will do.

Its a shame it looks so bad, especially since I'm on Gigabit Wifi.
