black or white (macbook)

well, i had been awaiting the advent of the macbook for a long time, and i am in the market for a new laptop - or notebook rather.

i admit i have had a few concierns with purcahseing one, there seems to be a gabble of problems like any new apple product, most of the problems seem asthetic and debatable in nature (the "mooing" noise, for example), but then, on the basis of asthetics i must make my case.

on the thursday precedeing the macbook release i visted my local apple store, and i was almost horrified at the condition of the white macbook. the one which is the most easily within my price range. it was so... dirty. thousands of grubby hands examening the machine done it to it in just a few days. and it has been making me start to seriously consider putting down the extra money down on the black model. it seems like to keep a white macbook white.. you need to wash your hands throughly before each use. a little kleptic for me

so i emplore you my fellow apple enthusiasts. should i buy the white, save some money and hope that it dosent turn black, or just get the black one to start with

I didn't have any problems with my iBook, which I had for about a year. The black one looks a lot better, but not $150 better. Apple should stop being so greedy.

Get the white one.

Just as with iPods, the white is going to show dirt, smudges, scratches, etc. much less than the black will. The black MacBook is gonna look beautiful right up until the point where something mars its surface... and then you're gonna hate it.

Go with the white MacBook. (Or go with the SILVER MacBook Pro, which is even better than white when it comes to retaining its original appearance.)

Remember:

I have not heard any reports (or have any personally) about mooing or such on the black version of the MacBook. The white's seem to have it. But I have not heard of any black ones with that problem.

A black one in this thread has the "moo" problem.

i checked them out at the apple store. white looks better. glossy white is even better. but for me a white computer always looks better.

the only reason to go black would be because it looks more professional if you're using it for presentations at work.

i couldn't hear anything at the apple store although i was not noisy there. they also didn't feel too hot after high load (letting movie trailers run).

A friend of mine got a black because he said they were more exclusive, yet now his trackpad look like a barn floor, I prefer white in any case

personally a suspect that mooing is a myth, it's just the fan noise and/or the HD spin and because someone suggested it other people without knowledge say "oh yeah mine makes a moo type noise too" my ibooks fans sound like a cow is mooing in my ibook too i dont go bitching about it to people

it is actually true that many MB's moo, yet you are right that many people are overreacting. Apple has had so many issues before, that whine and moo in intel machines is nothing.

Well no, but after seeing disassembly pics, you can determine where the sound comes from in the MB, and thereby find out what component is causing cow-ish sounds.
