netdog said:That is actually an argument for the black MB. I started with the white, and it immediately started to stain despite my washing my hands religiously before using it. The black one has been no problem. Bear in mind that the black MB is not glossy like the iPod or the white MB, and is not prone to scratches or staining.
Piarco said:Latest white MacBooks don't stain. In fact, out of the three people who I know with WhiteBooks, not one has evidence of staining. Scratches yes, but the BlackBook does also scratch. Not to the same extent as the whitebook, but it does scratch. Plus scratch removers exist for the Whitebooks but not the black... as yet.
netdog said:I think you will find that with any care at all, the black will not scratch.* The white, being glossy, will inevitably develop a fine lattice of micro-scrathces like the iPod and previous iBooks.
Sorry to be a pest, but the white MBs have had a number of cosmetic issues (not including structural issues here) while the black MBs have had none other than oil standing out on the mousepad for the first few days of use and one black MB that bizarrely and uniquely seemed to exhibit flaking on the finish.
The white is lovely, and I would never discourage anyone from buying one.* That said, I think it is important to inform buyers that if one is overly concerned about cosmetic issues, the white MB is certainly more problematic, particularly with its glossy finish.
Contrary to what you have said, with any care at all, the black MB does not scratch.* It would take a serious scrape to scratch this finish.

drake said:In my mind, black equals a cheap Dell. Used to be all laptops were black, white laptops where what makes the Mac laptops unique. At the same price, or even more, I'd still choose white.
Switched said:So I've decided to buy a macbook.
Now I can't decide between a black one or a white one. If they had an aluminium case like the MBP I would get that, but they don't.
What do you prefer and why?
JurgenWigg said:Have you seen the dell laptops? They're all silver and while or silver and some sort of cheap colored plastic. In the last few years i haven't seen a dell laptop that's all black.
