In 10.4 I went from being able to run windows in bootcamp and then after some upgrade or other all I would get was a black screen. Installed Leopard tonight and tried to install windows, nothing but a black screen after putting in the XP disc. Any thoughts?

Leopard Glitch when installing XP through Boot Camp

I have had the same problem with my 20", same model as yours but just with the upgrades. I contacted Apple Customer Care today and they at this stage could not help. They put me through to a level 2 technician and then they gave up. They said that they will have to forward my issue to the Apple Engineer's in the US and hopefully in a couple of weeks an update or something will be available.

I have the following firmware:
Boot ROM Version: IM51.0090.B09 SMC Version: 1.9f4

When I spoke to the technicians they said that my above firmware version was the latest available and this should not be the problem. Sorry I could not give you an answer but hopefully someone will help both of us out.

Thanks for your response. I don't feel so alone now! I'm going to give Apple a call today also, maybe speed things up a bit.

I've encountered problems running the xp installer, it seems like there are two problems that could be described as a black screen
1) screen goes black but continues installing - apple released a fix (the one Eidorian references) for some hardware, don't know much more about this one
2) screen goes black because the installer died

Which one are you seeing? I was seeing #2, and seem to have fixed it via the asms trick

As far as Apple explained to me over the phone the firmware update you are referring to only applies to the 24" models. Nothing is seemingly available as yet for the 20" with the same issue.

I believe the installer is still running because you can hear the cd drive working.

damn useless if you can't see the on screen instructions to make choices, for partitions, drive selection, etc.

Also I thought those out there interested in this thread might like to know something weird that happened to me.

I unsuccessfully tried to install XP SP2, as known. For a bit of fun I tried to install VISTA, it worked perfectly. The funny fact is that my Vista version was a direct rip off from the internet. Not genuine, burnt onto a blank disk.

I am now quite confused as my genuine XP SP2 does not work, no matter what I try, even though it worked perfectly on TIGER. Yet a Vista Rip worked immediately.

'Apple get cracking on a patch or something so I can use the more stable of the two XP!
