iPhone 7+ verified at Apple Store twice, passing all hardware checks by a genius, refuses to move past black screen with apple logo. Started having issues one day with phone calls (network, whatsapp, facetime) being completely mute on both ends. Then extended to voice memos app, and whatsapp voice notes, saying that no microphone was recognized. Then, when attempting a factory restore, phone locked itself up on black screen with apple logo. After several days of even failing to get to restore mode, managed to get phone back to work, only stalling a backup (if i attempted to set up as new phone, it would lock itself up again), but all issues with calls and voice notes remained. Then it would work for a some hours and lock itself up again on black screen. After last checkup on apple store, where they managed to set it up as new phone after having issues getting it up, they turned it off, and when i tried to turn it back up the same day, went straight to restore mode, and hasn't gone up again. Today, an "Error -50" was displayed on itunes after restore was "successful" but iphone itself remained with black screen with apple logo. It seems to reboot itself periodically from black screen to black screen, and home button is responsive.

If ANYBODY has any idea of what I could do to not entirely lose an apparently "perfectly functional phone", i'd appreciate it. Apple Store says that if hardware is ok, then phone is ok. Software is updated to latest available, as well as itunes on the computer.

It might be worth a shot to try a DFU restore. If you need the steps for that I can list them here.

Please do! Nothing has worked so far, and as everything is "ok" at the hardware checks at the store they simply won't do anything further. Their only proposal was to receive the phone for a ridiculous value in exchange for another one at a ridiculous price...I'd rather see if I can save the year-old phone i paid full price for at (yet another) apple store...

Okay…

Make sure you are using the latest version of iTunes. That may mean finding a computer capable of running the latest version.

1. Open iTunes and connect your iPhone to the computer via USB cable.
2. Turn off iPhone.
3. Put iPhone in DFU Mode. iPhone is properly in DFU Mode if your screen is blank. If you see an icon with the iTunes logo and a USB cable, it's not in DFU Mode. That's normal Recovery Mode.
3. When iTunes detects an iPhone in Recovery Mode (DFU Mode) let it upgrade and restore as new.
4. Assuming it all goes well, maybe wait a while to see how well the phone works and if ok then restore from your backup.

Now if things go wacky after restoring from the backup then you know you have corruption in your backup and restoring as new is going to be the only fix.

I have experience with a little over 7500 iPhones / iPads. In all of them I have only had three that could not be restored the standard way or with DFU restore. So your odds are pretty good.

Step 1:
Try standard restore using iTunes
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201263

If that fails try DFU restore ( this one is a bit tricky to get, I've done it hundreds of times and it still takes me a several attempts to catch the timing right, so be patient ):

Let us know what happens.

Thank you! Standard way definitely doesn't work. I'm stuck on black screen with apple logo. I'll definitely try to run DFU tonight and let you know. THANK YOU!

DFU did't work. I'm running a second try, as even after a "successful recovery" and selecting to set device up as new phone, i get the average itunes screen with all contents and options from "inside" the phone, but the device itself remains in apple logo and black screen. Now upon further digging i've found two apps that allegedly help repairing software issues, Reiboot and Fonelab, but both are somewhat expensive and I have no clue if either would actually do something or if they're just scams. Have you heard about them, or could recommend something? The phone is there, even homebutton responds to touch, I just can't tap into it...

If DFU didn't work, I'd consider taking it back to the Apple Store. I would hope the 3rd time would be enough to warrant a replacement.

As for software, I wouldn't bother. iTunes should've been able to fix it with a restore.

Update: Did DFU AGAIN, got to the screen to select new phone or backup. Hit backup, entered password, and VOILA, phone went straight to "HELLO" screen. Started proceeding accordingly...and then bam! restoring backup started. It's loading but i know the backup is corrupted with the muted calls glitch. This is driving me insane i really do refuse to spend all the money they want me to spend on a new phone (whether another one of the same without warranty or applecare) or even MORE MONEY on one of the new ones that have even more conflicting reviews than the very crappy 7 plus. The phone is there, i just confirmed it. It just wants a corrupted backup or nothing at all...

They say *of course* phone is out of warranty. The issues started after a screen repair they performed a week after applecare expired, and now, evidently, they won't replace or fix or anything. Get a new one is the only option they provide. I'll go again, but seriously, it's wasting hours to hear the same discourse
