Right now I am on a powerbook G4 1.5 ghz 15 inch (2 gigs of ram) that is a pain to edit HD with.
I just bought an HDR-HC7 and am planning on buying a new MBP in about six-8 months (I graduate from high-school spring 08 and want to buy a computer as close to my college entry as possible, but my powerbook is almost 3 1/2 years old and is getting slow for any intensive tasks).
My mom just got a new blackbook (1 gig ram), basically standard equipment. I was wondering if it will be able to handle editing HD material from this camera in Imovie, and also should I invest in Final Cut Express for that laptop given it has no video card?

Thanks,
sorry if this has been asked before.

I'm sure it'd be fine but the easiest thing to answer this would be to hook the HDR-HC7 to your mother's MacBook and give it a try, see what its like! You're the best person qualified to answer this question and you have all the hardware there required to do so! :)

Edit: The only thing you might want to add if you were to make it your main HD editing machine (or if you got a similar one for yourself) would be to up the RAM to 2GB. RAM prices are so incredibly low right now, I'd recommend any MacBook or MacBook Pro owner to up the RAM to 2GB.
