For the MLB app is there a way I can hide my ip address on the apple tv 2 so I can watch in market games in my area ? Is it possible. I have my iPad jailbroken w the fake location and it works And the jailbroken AirPlay app too but only sound goes through the apple tv when I try to AirPlay it. If anyone knows a way to watch my team it would most be appreciated. Thank you

This would interest me as well as I don't have cable but I have an Apple TV. I would be willing to jailbreak my iPad for this Fake Location service. Is this an app in Cydia? I jailbroke my old iPhone 3G, but since Google Voice apps were allowed, I didn't see the need to anymore. Plus I had some issues with self assigned IP addresses because of it. May be worth it to try again.
EDIT: Just learned you cannot yet jailbreak an iPad 2, so I am even more interested in an Apple TV option. I wonder if VPN is possible with ATV2?

Fortunately I'm not addicted to MLB, and so the Fox game of the week satisfies my occasional cravings.
What you want to google for is MLB proxy server which will get you plenty of hits, along with some morality lectures. Good luck.

I was at an Apple retail store the other day and I saw a baseball game on. It was being shown on a relatively large screen TV, at least 46". It looked like the TV was being driven by an Apple TV gen 2.
I thought the picture quality was really good. There were no sales droids immediately available, or I would have asked to confirm that I was watching streaming MLB.
So, does that jibe with other people's experience as to the quality?

I will say that the quality on most of the games is very good. It's not usually outstanding, but certainly up to broadcast snuff. And if a game is being broadcast in HD by a network, it's very likely you'll be watching it in HD on the ATV.
I don't have the ATV2, but FWIW I've been consistently impressed with the quality on the iPad (during the free month and now free game of the day). You'll want decent high speed internet at home though.
I'm a longtime subscriber to MLB.tv and the streaming quality on the ATV2 is very good. For me, the broadcast stays in high-def for virtually the entire game with only occassional "drops" to a lower quality (usually for 10-20 seconds max).
The interface is also miles ahead of any other streaming alternative out there.
My only complaint is the audio. Unlike Netflix, which can stream up to 5.1, all MLB games via ATV2 are streamed in stereo only.
Regarding the ip blackout, I'd love to know a solution as well. I am a Red Sox fan living in Texas and its maddening that the Rangers blackout the entire state even though no stations in my market (San Antonio) carry Texas Rangers broadcasts.
